Don't blame our forwards

In fairness, I did not watch the whole game. Got so mad when the frees were 6 to 2, and were a contributing factor to our low score.

But from what I did see, was once again such poor delivery to the forwards. Did anyone else notice every time one of our guys got the ball, he was frantically looking around for someone to kick it to. When the options were not there he would just roost into the forward line, which apart from a couple of good marks by Sarge, gave Browny or Petts or Richo any chance. Seems to me, other teams may have got us worked out, and in consequence, we are back to stop start footy. Same old, same old. I only watched till 1\2 time, and turned it of in disgust. It's not that I mind so much getting beaten, but get frustrated when we beat ourselves.

I'd say don't blame our backmen. I reckon the players delivering the ball had very little option. Players up the ground were standing like stale bottles of pepsi. The ball was roosted into the forward line because nobody presented themselves well enough to be a reasonable target. Hardly any decent leads all night.

Very frustrating. We seemed to have gone back into our shells.Terry forget about the big drubbings.Lets play the attacking run with the ball game plan.Yeah we got belted twice.Big deal.Run Boys Run.

I think our main problem was that our forward line is too congested. On a small ground like the SCG it makes it hard for forwards to lead and find space as we saw last night. Sydney quite simpley knew how to play the ground and we didnt.

When Richo doesn't play delivery to forwards is not an issue. He (great player bleeds richmond) has always been a difficult lead to hit. Goes way too early and ends up at 30kmh 15m away from the ball carrier, very hard to hit those leads.

Think your right Madcow. We seem to have lost our way a bit and don't seem to know which game plan we want to implement. Seem to have reverted to some old habits of stopping and propping and handballing to a player who is under as much pressure as the player giving off. Don't seem to be as creative as we have been earlier on and are not using the ball anywhere near as effectively.

Maybe thats because Sydney wouldn't let us, but the backline seemed lost without J Bowden down there directing traffick.

Absolutely right..... last night we needed Sarge in the goal square with NGB and thats it. Its one thing i have noticed with TW game style that i dont like and thats his reluctance to set an open forward line...we never really get one outs. Everytime the ball goes in Schulz's direction i feel we are a chance and often he takes the mark. Id like to see him steaming out of FF with a guy dropping in front of him cause i reckon he will take some blinders!

Play:

FF: Schulz Brown

HFF: Pettifer Richo Tambling

Pettifer in tha backline isnt doing our chances of kicking goals much good either ::)

Agree entirely Gus but don't underestimate the loss of Newmo in defence either.
Without the steadying influence and creativity of these two stalwarts, our defence is like a ship without a rudder. :(

Good post 8 ball. Schulz needs to be given every opportunity to strut his stuff. It's been too congested up front.

People need to take a bit of a deep breath and look at some realities;
like having five possible first choice backmen out. (J. Bowden, Hall, Thursfield, Newman and Hartigan),
like the conditions being perfect for Sydney's small, experienced, running brigade on a wet, slippery small oval that is familiar to them,
like home town support influencing the umpires,
like Richmond playing lots of kids to give them experience,
like playing the reigning premiers
like having our only power forward coming back from a serious (broken) wrist.

i was there last night, and wallace's tactics were very poor on that ground. and the few times that we did kick it 50m we scored.

richo gave up leading because of the flood and we were to slow to get it in there
