DOWLER & MUSTON

Dowler is actually ahead of projected injury time-off, and has been back to very close to full-training. He even managed to play cricket in the summer for his club a few games, so he's coming along better than expected. There was talk he'd be ready around round 1 for Box Hill, but obviously since he is no chance for senior selection they've decided to make sure he's right, and so we can elevate our two mature rookies (Gilham (Port Adelaide) and Ben Kane) to play.

Muston's knee wasn't apparently a second total reconstruction, just a tidy up of the first one, which the Doctor said didn't add any more time onto his projected time off. Is still a fair bit behind Dolwer, but his ex-coach compared his style to Deledio, and have heard lots of raps on him, so I'm more than happy to take a risk on him with pick 22. Knees are always a risk, hopefully he comes back well and can have a good 2007.

I'm glad we drafted both of these guys, and am pretty sure Richmond would have nabbed Dowler at pick 8 if had lasted that long as well.

a gamble expecially in Muston,s case after 2 knee reco,s but one well worth taking IMO.
Hmmm two knee recos? I don't think I'd have picked him no matter how talented he may have been.
Good luck to him in his recovery but he's starting from a long way back....

If we took him at 24 I would have been very upset.

Dowler was worth the risk at 8, I think, actually have no doubt that we would have jumped at him.

True right. Even GM had Dowler in the top 5 picks. The point is, having to risk two picks on injured players particularly having 5 in the top 20.

Hawks will lose out on these risks with injured juniors. Hilton was a top junior that did his knee and was never better than serciveable.

It will be several more years of playing for draft picks for the Hawks.

Can someone direct me to the Tiger's board? My link is faulty I keep ending up on HHQ with discussion on Lewis, Dowler & Muston.

Dowler will be a gun.....i think we would have pounced on him if he was available at 8.  Muston is already looking to 2007 and will need to show form in the magoos before getting a chance to play in the 1s.  Will be hard pressed to play senior footy before his contract is up!

Not my understanding of the situation, realist. The first graft didn't take. The exploratory revealed this and the ligament was either fully reapplied or a new one grafted, not sure which, the former, I think. Anyways, the upshot was that because the graft was surgically severed rahter than ruptured, the healing time would be reduced, possibly to six months. Of course, that's if it takes. The first one didn't. Good luck to him but in the school of percentages, he's a one and a half knee lad.

That's not to say that, given the number of selections Hawthorn had, it wasn't wise to punt on an inside/outside player like Muston.

FWIW, he's nearly two months older than Deledio who would have made a mess of the TAC cup last year.

Wowww you can into see into the fututre.

So your basing Hawthorns failure on one player that didn't make it because of injury. I pity you.

If Dowler lasted to 8 there was preety much no doubt that Miller would have picked him up, injured or not.

you can predict the future also ferris???

How have i predicted the future? by saying that it could go both ways, by not writing of those players before they have even played a game or recovered from there injuries.

Or was it by saying that Richmond would have picked up Dowler at number 8 had he been available.

Hasn't Miller already stated that he would have gone with Dowler at the Tiger members draft review and didn't he also publicly state that he was the best kpp in last years draft?

Millers top 3 in the draft was

1. Murphy
2. Ellis
3. Dowler.

I don't believe Dowler's injury had any impact at all on his draft position.

However, if known at the time, his driving ability would have seen him slip through to the Rookie Draft. Maybe further. ;D

I think it was widely known that Dowler would not have got past #8 unless Murphy or Ellis had slipped through, too. Maybe Thomas would have made it interesting but we KNEW Colingwood was taking him.

Miller loved Muston. Jackson was a bit more circumspect but keen. Not sure that in December 05 Muston's prognosis was nearly as good as Dowler's. That's if you can keep Dowler away from the Speedway racing. Or cordless bungee jumping. :hihi
