Not enough strings to his bow, doesn't get it enough. A poor man's Steamer.

I suppose I'll take all that on board then. My Hawk mate reckons Boyle is very big and a good contested mark rather than a leading forward like steamer.

Fair enough though.

From my limited viewing I thought Boyle looked ok last season. Good hands, nice accurate kick.

Can anyone tell me what his deficiencies are?

If you got him to be your number 1 forward, you'd be in strife.

Think Jade Rawlings at the Dogs

Injury prone. Just doesn't go to the footy. There's an upside to that. He's very immature for his years (he was anyway) and IF he got on the park regularly he might bloom.

Partly because of his nature and definitely due to his injuries (nasty broken leg in... 2006?) he can be shy. He is not a jib. But he has no *smile* in him and never will.

He is miles quicker on the burst than Sarge or Clean-Knees, more masculine than Cleveland (big call) and shows immaculate skills. He is a better athlete than either. And his best footy awareness is best of Schulz class.

He's very much a #2 forward. Will simply never have the power to take the heat of the #1 slot.

But just being better than Hughes and Sarge doesn't mean much. It's not like either of those blokes plays tall at AFL level. Jay has spent most of the year on HBF, zoning off and sneaking forward.

Even if you got Boyle, got his body right and then he improved he may not make premiership key forward class.

Could be an improver but for now is not a big step up on two we have, will cost a juicy draft pick and there is no guarantee he will even go to the football.

There's usually a good reason blokes don't get a game.
I'd liken this to Geelong getting rid of Playfair and Gardiner last year and they've hardly kicked on.
If they were good enough they'd be getting a game, no matter how strong the team is.
