i came up with an idea about offering draft picks for where you finish at the end of the season

based on a lottery system like the NBA but with more chance for lower teams to get the early picks, how it will work is however many losses you get, you get that amount of balls entered into the lottery. For example this year would be

carlton, collingwood and hawthorn would get 17 balls
essendon would get 14
us 12
and so on

this giving the lower teams more of a chance to get earlier draft picks and teams that get into the finals a bit of a chance to get an earlier pick.

you could still have priority picks for teams that dont win many games. If this went ahead it would result in teams trying as they would not want to risk losing lots of games to get more of a chance to get an earlier pick and then luck not being on there side. it would be more fairer

YOUR THOUGHTS???

Good thought, something needs to change on priority picks thats for sure.

Sometimes streaks of luck seem to happen.  You could end up with a successful team getting the first picks.

Agree on needing a system where losing isn't an incentive.

Interesting alternative. It's got potential. Well done Craz.

Its ridiculous that Collingwood get priority picks when they were in back to back grand finals only a couple of years ago.

Some have suggested giving picks 1-16 in order of teams that finish from last to the top. Then Picks 17, 18 or 19 could be the priorities.
This would even things up a bit, but clubs would still have a slight advantage.
Personally, this priority pick business has created big headlines over recent years, when St Kilda took advantage of early selections. It is by no means 'the' secret to success.

Only Colonel Sanders has the secret to success. :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi

i like the idea of a lottery for teams that dont make the 8. this system would give the lower teams best chance of getting the top pick, but also the teams in no mans land just outta the 8 a chance to get some good talent.

the teams who make the finals will get their picks at the end of the lottery in reverse order to how they finish. (i think i explained that rite?)
