Here is a brief outline on how we comapred to the actual draft and how Burgatron VI compared as well.

Firstly, in regards to us vrs the actual draft, we got 2 selections correct. Picks 1 and 20. Well done. I'll admit I did pick Scott Pendlebury, but in the PRE draft I picked him up at 23.

There was 24 selections which occured that we did not have in our Phantom Draft. The earliest being Max Bailey at pick 18 for Hawthorn.

There were some significantly big differences.

Actual Pick 2 Dale Thomas- PRE had him pick 18
Pick 19 Courtney Dempsey- PRE had him 41
Pick 23 Ryan Cook- PRE had him 58
Pick 24 Cleve Hughes- PRE had him 9
Pick 26 Garrick Ibbotson- PRE had him 42
Pick 28 Matt Riggio- PRE had him 51
Pick 31 Trent West- PRE had him 48
Pick 33 Sam Gilbert- PRE had him 53
Pick 36 Jake Edwards- PRE had him 70
Pick 43 Andrew Swallow- PRE had him 10
Pick 44 Alipate Carlile- Pre had him 67
Pick 48 Alan Obst- PRE had him 29
Pick 51 Matthew Laidlaw- PRE had him 33
Pick 57 Michael West- PRE had him 32
Pick 66 Austin Lucy- PRE had him 30

Obviously there are some decent differences due to the eveness of the draft, but we dont seem to have done to bad compared to our draft. Jarryd Oakley-Nicholls up 5 places, Cleve Hughes down 15 places, and Travis casserly up 10 places.

In regards to Burgatron VI, Matt successfully predicted 5 correct selections. Picks 1, 10, 12, 17, 36. There were 16 selections that occured which matt didn't have in his draft. The earliest being pick Nick Lower at 30 for Port Adelaide.

There were some significantly big differences in Matt's too.

Actual Pick 18 Max Bailey- Burgatron had him 37
Pick 23 Ryan Cook- Burgatron had him 70
Pick 26 Garrick Ibbotson- Burgatron had him 42
Pick 27 Dylan Addison- Burgatron had him 54
Pick 28 Matt Riggio- Burgatron had him 45
Pick 31 Trent West- Burgatron had him 66
Pick 32 Bernie Vince- Burgatron had him 63
Pick 42 Robert Warnock- Burgatron had him 68
Pick 43 Andrew Swallow- Burgatron had him 26
Pick 45 Kasey Green- Burgatron had him 25
Pick 66 Austin Lucy- Burgatron had him 31

We don't seem to have done too bad compared to Matt.

Some further points of interest, Essendon did well getting Austin Lucy at pick 66.
Burgatron did select Montgomery and Michael West, but in a different order.

Geelongs tips;
15. Travis Varcoe PRE had him 16, Burgatron had him 21 PASS
31. Trent West PRE had him 48, Burgatron had him 66 FAIL
35. Stephen Owen Neither PRE or Burgatron had him. FAIL
47. Ryan Gamble PRE didn't have him, Burgatron had him 32 50/50
61. Mathew Stokes Neither PRE or Burgatron had him FAIL

I know it's not fair to be harsh but that doesn't look too good for Geelong.

Collingwoods tips;
2. Dale Thomas PRE had him 18, Burgatron had him 5 50/50
5. Scott Pendlebury PRE had him 23, Burgatron had him 13 FAIL
21. Danny Stanley PRE had him 26, Burgatron had him 15 PASS
23. Ryan Cook PRE had him 58, Burgatron had him 70 FAIL
37. John Anthony Neither PRE or Burgatron had him. FAIL

Dale Thomas will be a good player I'm sure, but I don't rate him that high.

In regards to my PASS, FAIL, and 50/50's, basically if both PRE and Burgatron accuratley get near the actual selection, then it's a PASS to the club. If one misses but the other gets close, then it's a 50/50, and obviously if neither select the actual player or both miss by a fair margin, then it is a FAIL.

Now, lets look at Richmond....considering our tall choices were gone,

8. Jarryd Oakley-Nicholls PRE had him 13 and Burgatron had him 19 5/50 (just)
24. Cleve Hughes PRE had him 9, Burgatron had him 20 PASS
40. Travis Casserly PRE had him 50, Burgatron had him 50. PASS

All in all, a great result.

Other suprises, apart from the list of players who didn't get selected was Andrew Swallow going as late as Pick 43.

PRE picked Jake Edwards at selection 70, while Burgatron selected him exactly at 36

Great stuff Balmy.

I guess my career as a recruiter is officially over after my first three picks didn't even get selected. :rofl

Scoops Port Picks were based on that needed KKP backs and inside midfielders.

With Cook and Edwards going inside the top 40, I think my PRE Draft was a raging success.

I took AUstin Luck thirty picks too high but the other two balance it out. :rofl

Bit surprised that Matty THomas didn't go at all, I thought he was my best pick to be honest. ::)

Can't wait for next years, if we start now we may finsih it by 2007. :rofl

Yep, I've just been called into the CEO office and told to pack up my desk also.

4 of my picks missed out. :-[

On close examination of the PRE Drat c.f the actual, clearly indicate significant differences with selections. Whilst many predicted the calibre of players expected in the top 20, the results therafter were spasmodic.

The PREender's should not be disgraced by their predictions. After all, there are so many other contributing factors determining player selections, that need to be considered - The criteria chosen by AFL clubs is always difficult to weigh.

Well done to all those who contributed in the recent PRE Draft competition. But more importantly, thank you to those who gave us wonderful insights into the up & coming young talent across the country this year.

There is scope for PRE next year to collate more information about U18 Football in Australia.
Perhaps we can target specific weekend games and ensure we learn more.

Fantastic effort to all, enjoyed watching and thanks Balmy for the wrap up.
