Dreamtime Jumper

I guess we're doing it for the indigenous community. Ultimately, if they like it, that's what matters. And
Phil Egan seems pretty chuffed so I think we've hit a chord

Would Collingwood let someone else mess with their stripes?

*smile* +1.

firstly, it's hideous.

secondly, why are we changing our jumper when we're the home team? black with yellow sash please, none of this tacky one-off rubbish.

Not a fan at all. Our home game, national television, biggest crowd we've played in front of for a quite a while you'd imagine...and we're gonna run out wearing that.

But it does scream 'money making opportunity' to me. But thats ok too, because it is our duty as a club to make as much money as possible.

No doubt, and no matter what spin people want to put on it, it's primarily a marketing initiative. Hopefully the jumpers sell well and put more $$$ in our coffers.

At least the opposition fans won't be laughing at how we play the game this time. :spin

For a one off I think it's quite good.

And I :clap the club on this. Great idea.

Proceeds from the sale of the jumpers go to fund the RFC indigenous programs

This article has the direct quotes from Phil Egan. Reckon the reaction he has to this sums up why the club did it:

I actually don't mind the jumper, but am clearly in the minority.

I have said for the past few seasons, for this game, the yellow sash should be a 'dot painting', similar to the sash in the Dreamtime logo.

Looks good as a one off.
Are the bummers wearing something spesh too ?

I have been trying to find what they're wearing Flem, but can't find anything. From the first promo pics on telly I thought they were incorporating a large aboriginal flag yellow sun on the front to go with the black and red.

I must say it's growing on me.

Watch the video presentation.

It has a much darker yellow and looks way better than the photo version on the site.

With 18 players wearing it,I reckon it will stand out.

I don't need to provide my creds as a designer, but the one thing I firmly believe in is that if you criticise something you must offer an alternative solution...

Seeing the jumper today I instantly thought the concept was great but poorly executed, especially from a commercial product/merchandise perspective. Personally I would've not been so bold in violating the sash, well at least not all of it - perhaps an indigenous motif off the shoulder and then fading into the yellow sash, or just change it completely with a huge yellow boomerang on the chest... there are so many options.

Hey Kooga, give me a call :hihi

Stinks to high heaven. Come on tiges, don't demean yourselves with this sh*t.

We have an awesome jumper, the best alternate strip and we roll this dog out.

Imagine if every indigenous kid now looks to support a team that supports their culture, all for the sake of a one off change to our jumper. I can live with it.
Imagine if a sponsor chipped in some extra $ for the extra publicity. I can live with it.

Agreed, or should that read '+1'? :)

I'm sure the club doesn't think it is demeaning itself by doing this - I'd be more pissed off if they went down the Carlton (M&M's), and St.Kilda (Pura Milk) path of completely changing the colours all for some extra cash.

Sure they are hoping to sell some jumpers, but the change is for a cause celebrating indigenous footballers and their contribution to footy. I'm sure if Mr. Magic were still with us he'd be as moved as Phil Egan was with what the club has done.

It's a pity we wont have a representative in the game, but I'm sure with the opening of the Indigenous Centre at Punt Road, the club want to be seen to be proactive in gathering more attention for the game this week and in the future. If that means a change to the jumper for a good cause then I'm okay with that.

There's a good chance that they will do it again next year with another artist.

It's a one off for a good cause, the young and the elderly indigenous will apppreciate it which is will be a sign of respect... though most important thing for me is....Winning the game this Sat night!.
