A sensible post and a new avatar for the month....hope you fellow pre,s approve.........
Well,I didnt know what to make of the swannieuglyducklings last year.....I know they played with spirit...and kirky....bazza hall and that taigh kinnelly were worth a look at on a bright boring QLD afternoon....but,to be quite honest....their game plan was,to say the least....on the nose big time....in my opinion anyway....Ive said it before....if Matera hadda been playin...it would have been a weagle cup on record....But were the weagles to blame?Geelong pussycatkitties, underachievers again?Adelaide...an honest footy team?
Whadyas reckon?Whats the game plan gonna be?A plan based on attack and prolific scoring....especially generating the run off the half back line....or just shutting down and turning off the oppositions supply to goal?
Or a combination of some astute defence that somehow turns into full-on attack? And some skill to burn into the mix?
So....fellow Puntroadenders....Im fair dinkum with this thread...Im really looking forward to what yous reckon is the BEST WAY to go about this year given the CATTLE that we got...How we,re gonna get the best outta our team....Dont get me wrong.......Ive got a lot of faith in terry and the coaching boys down there.....but....for the record...I wanna hear it from yous...thank you very much...and go in hard.......... dont hold back...there are some very switched on prenders that have posted fantastic insights and analysis.............as of now....I,NITROTIGER,AM AT FOOTY SCHOOL......... ;D ;D

Seeing as none of the gurus have taken up your challenge yet Nitro, I'll have a crack at it.

As you suggested it requires "a combination of some astute defence that somehow turns into full-on attack.... with some skill to burn into the mix".

My recommendation is a well proven Tiger formula patented by TJ and known as The 1980 Pea-Beau Plan

Hit ‘em with the old Pea-Beau,
Hit ‘em with the old Pea-Beau.
Hit ‘em high,
Hit ‘em low,
Hit ‘em with the old Pea-Beau!

The plan is based on the following essential ingredients:-

1. Brainwashing the big blokes by finding a modern equivalent of Rudi Webster to hypnotize Knobel, Simmonds, Stafford, Richo, Schulz and Hall into believing they are the most physical, intimidating "nasty boys" in the business.

2. Structuring the most potent goal-kicking forward line ever around Richo, Schulz and Brown.

3. Re-inforcing the ruck contest/clearance unit around Tuck, Coughlan, Rodan and co. to not just lock the ball up but force it clear to our advantage.

4. Utilising our speed merchants like Deledio, Tambling, Jonboy etc. to transfer the ball from ruck contests and out of defence down to the attacking zone "post-haste" before the opposition can cover our leading forwards.

5. Last, but not least, improving our teamwork and disposal skills out of defence....... e.g. more Newman and less Tivendale types.

Seriously......good attacking ,no-nonsense footy youve got my vote!Cheers! ;D
Thanx Nitro!

Pea-Beau is far more sensitive to my condition than Mortein  :shakehead

yes, richmonds pea-beau plan of 1980 ended up being alot better than collingwoods mortein plan...

poor louie the fly, straight from the garbage tip to you :rofl

Nitro - the way I see our Game Plan evolving is to ensure we maximise our scoring potential, i.e ensuring we kick something like 20 goals per game - and hope we can hold the opposition to less than that. The other key is to shore up the defensive pressure placed on our oppositions midfield and defence (i.e. our midfields and forwards) to make it as difficult as possible for them to score and also give our undermanned defence at least a semblance of a chance of restricting their scoring potential.

The key seems to be the midfield who need to be able to create opportunities for our forwards and at the same time restrict opportunities for opposition midfielders. This is why it is so important that we have a mix in our midfield, hard guys like Cogs, Johnno & Tuck, and guys who can carry and deliver, like Lids, Bling and others.  These players need to be able to work forward and also work back. I think this is why our recruiting in recent years has been midfield focussed.

Swannies- Ugly Ducklings game plan would not work for all clubs, based upon the Size of Home Ground etc.

Go the Knuckle :boxing

If we are paying duds to stay then lets use them and get em to sacrifice a few weeks here and there for a common good.
That is removing key opposition threats and also removing them selves from the side for 4 tro 6 weeks at a time .

Everyones a winner. ;) :hihi
