Duty of care

What I'd like to know is who is this kid who has overtaken Gas so much that the club has been torn apart over it?

Kelvin Moore apparently grew 20 cms since the west coast game and began bench pressing thirteen times his own bodyweight overnight. An absolute miracle has occured. Further to this, his brain was tested and found to be better than all the full backs ever to have played the game combined.

An absolute miracle i tell you.

Tivendale is our top ranked player, why drop him to Coburg reserves and put our kids under so much pressure. I may be crucified for saying this, but we actually need Tivendale in the side.
He has been far from our worst & I agree he still should be in the side.

This performance is disgraceful. The club have a duty to the supporters who pay big money and give up a lot of time to watch them. If we are going to use the play the "kids" card as an excuse questions have to be asked why that effort is all we can come up with. Supporters have a right to expect a competitve performance and therefor age shouldn't be a major selection criteria until the kids are good enough.

The club had the stuffing knocked out of it this week and morale has been low, well someone involved has told me it is and it certainly looks that way to me tonight.

What I'd like to know is who is this kid who has overtaken Gas so much that the club has been torn apart over it?
Good thread Rosy,to me the Gaspar decision was one that was made on the run to appease a few.Gaspar should have been retired at season's end but once we signed him for another year he deserved more than 5 games. It was like lambs to the slaughter last night.

Everyone is trying to be Einstein trying to find a solution, well look no further.

It's the curse of the *smiling* tiger skin I tell you.

We need preists from all denominations to bless the whole club, right around from Punt Road, around to Brunton Avenue and that small section of parkland where Jack's statue stands.

I wonder if terry can tell us when we can look fwd to waving it for the first time.

Jack Dyer indeed. He would be turning in his grave. If ever there was the epitome of the tough footballer it was Jack. I was lucky enough to watch him play towards the end of his football career, and was pleased I never had to meet him in head on clash.

As mentioned in another thread, I have lived through many many years of Tiger footy, and have to say, that even when the team was down and out, they always kept fighting. That was the true Tiger spirit.

Quite the contrary I think Darren Gaspar has to take a large portion of the blame.
When the going got tough, he quit.

Wallace called his bluff and he chickened out because it was all too hard to fight for his spot in the side.
This mercenary is a sook of the highest order and the quicker the memory of him is forgotten the better.

His immediate retirement on the verge of a game for which he selected was nothing short of pathetic.
At the very least he could have used his farewell game as an impetetus for victory but he squibbed it and took his bat and ball home.

It clearly had a mentally destabilising effect on his 'team' mates that he could desert them so readily as their is no way known we are as bad as last Sunday's debacle indicates.

I hope wallace calls the bluff on a few others who aren't prpared to do the tough yards for their team mates.

Good riddance.

You have got to be joking, despite Gaspar's reasonable form he was told he was on the outer. If in Gaspar's shoes I would have told Wallace where to go.Wallace himself admitted his form was okay so Gaspar did the right thing. This was a decision made on the run continuing a trend of mistreating players near the end of their retirement.

I guess at the end of the day the club has a clear choice. Continue to play the same players who let us down year after year or put our youngsters to the test and give them valuable game time to come to grips what the standart they need to play at this level. I'll take the second thanks. The gaspars, tivendales, krakouers, bowdens of the world have had their chance.

Move on.

The only joke here was Gaspar's sooky retirement.
Again he was selected to play this week and it was him who left his team in the lurch.
Terry just told him a few home truths that 90% of Richmond supporters have thought for some time.

This was a decision based with one eye on the future.
In case you hadn't noticed Gaspar played every game and we were 0-5. Where was that taking us exactly?
The season was shot so of course Wallace is thinking about next season and beyond.
Every game Gaspar played between now and the end of the season is one less game for hungry youngster of equal ability. Gaspar may have played 10 more games for the year but we'll never know as it was HIM who closed his career in his clubs time of need.

Gaspar's '07 was always going to be as a bit player.
He was extremely lucky to even be offered a base grade contract this season(a mistake IMO). His form last year was injury struck and scratchy and it was only because of poor depth at FB that he was retained at all.
Even then, in all likelyhood if Hall and Thursfield were fit, he wouldn't even have been in the team to start the year.
I'd be amazed if he thought otherwise as he is clearly past his best. Perhaps his ego had him deluded, mind you Miller's ridiculous suggestions last year that he could play beyond this season didn't help. ::)

The mistakes the club made weren't linked to playing an younger player ahead of him, they were retaining him at all and the history of pathetic recruitment which failed to replace him.

MB64 you are right - Gas was mistreated, first by TW and now by posters like TOO. No respect.

TOO for the record - Can you imagine what Gas would have thought looking at a scoreline like that and have Wallace's words ringing in his ears "these defenders are as good as you so you won't be playing for the rest of the season." What a load of *smile*.

We have had years to find replacements for aging players like Gas and Richo and the facts are that we haven't,we haven't even come close.

Good to see TOO that you can twist Sunday's debacle into Gas's fault. Pathetic. Try venting your spleen at someone who was actually on the park. You can just about pick anyone. Given you idiot that Gaspar was to be permanently relegated to Coburg the only right anyone has to whinging piteously about Gaspar quitting is bloody Andy Collins, because Coburg is the only club which has been inconvenienced.

Gaspar's presence unlikely would have made a much difference if any but I guess we'll never know because the fact is he quit two days out from the game.

The only *smile* here is that 'quote' of yours from Terry Wallace.

Richo has played every game and we are 0-6. Is that Richo's fault?

We got thumped because we had an incompetent defence - it is unlikely to change this week and unless TW floods another 10 -15 goal thrashing awaits.

Gaspar taking a key forward has a ripple effect as lesser players take on lesser opponents. Players like Raines and Bowden and Newman have more opportuinity to zone off because they are more confident in a key player being locked down.

Also most teams still direct most of their inside 50s to certain key forwards (ieg Richo at RFC and Hall at Sydney). When 35 or 40% of inside 50's are directed at Hall and GAS keeps him to 1 goal, it is impossible to have a blow out like we saw on the weekend.

I feel for Kel Moore as you see the fear and resignation on his face most of the time. He is unfortuantely a choker or freezer of the highest order. That's why teams he plays in invariably lose.

When a defence has absulutely no stopping capabilities, the option of rebounding out becomes redundant and we get the result we had on Sunday. TW's only real option is to flood and play keep ball until we find a real defender - maybe Willy T. Otherwise 10 goal plus losses will be the norm!

When we have a line up with Kel Moore, Daniel Jackson and others of this ilk, we have issues. Nothing against these boys, but they aren't, in my opinion, up to it... I just can't see a Kel Moore on Barry Hall???
