Was flicking through radio stations in the car yesterday, and came across SEN.

They introduced Dwayne Russell as former AFL great Dwayne Russell. Really?

I checked his career:

Games: 50 (1987: 18, 1988: 12, 1989: 7, 1990: 4, 1991: 9)
Ave Disp: 14.9
Ave Goals: 1.0
Ave tackles: 0.68

No Brownlows
No finals
No B&F
No AA

An AFL great. Really?

Bet he didn't query the description. But then again every goal and every mark is The one of the year in his eyes so maybe a 50 game career meets his threshold of greatness?

That's the thing, anyone else who played 50 mediocre games would be embarrassed by that description. Not our Dwayne!

Great pick up Nico. Old Dwayno's record is probably best kept in a secret file somewhere :)

He certainly bigs up his career every chance he gets by name dropping the guys he played with and against. Conveniently omits how few games he played and how modest his stats were.

Sen 1116
Budget $12.50
On the books Russell, Murphy, Maher and Cornes
That's the hall of fame of the worse radio callers in the history of the game.

Take away Ablett and a few others like Couch, Hocking Stoneham and maybe Bairstow Geelong teams were smoothered with king duds. Like *smile*'s, Darcy & Yeats.
If Hawthorn didn't get so many injuries during that so called 'best GF' in 89 Hawthorn would've slapped them.
Brereton, Dippa, Platten & Ayres were all injured.

Dwayne has had the s***s on with us because he always figured that one day we'd come knocking and extend his career.

But as bad as we were in the late 80s, even we wouldn't touch him.
