Lynch would be to strong for Astbury
Rance to fast for jack
Grimes would beat Dusty.
The only bloke capable of beating Martin is playing in the same side.

If Dusty did start getting on top of Grimes , you could throw Rance onto him & shift Broad onto Jack.

It's actually that next level that would give the forwards an advantage. Who picks up Stack, Rioli and Castagna? There is only 1 Grimes. Short and Broad would struggle against our small forwards I think
Think Vlastuin and Houli would flog George and Rioli. They'd hardly get a touch
Stack is the only one who would get off the leash but Baker would be interesting and you never know what Smith is going to do.

I thought the same thing re the smalls , but Broad can also play small ! Our system seems to be able to help lock down on the smalls against other teams !

Isn’t it great they we can have debates on our own fwd v backs though !

Listen to him on the tape (after GF), he has really grown as a person, same with the rest of the backs. They were under extreme pressure. Somehow, they focus on their roles, had the team thing and were consistent. WOW! I really hope Rance gets back to his best, the back 6/7 were be powerful.

Some pics of the smiling assassin & one of my favourite players Grimes who got married yesterday.
Most of the boys attended, even Ellis.
Pity Dusty wasn’t there! Still with the Tattooed one?

Houli is a poor defender so how do you conclude that they would hardly get a touch.

Houli's strength is his ability to rebound as a loose man in defence.

Both Rioli and George have Houli covered for pace and would burn him off.

OK ill bite. Bachar is a star. Poor defender? Does not wash with me pal. In light of his big game player status, one of the biggest fake newsy posts I've ever read.

Rioli only gets 12 disposals a game. Doesn't get a lot of touches anyway. Castagna would be a more difficult proposition. But I'd back Valstuin to beat both of those more often than not quite easily.

Houli is a very good player but his strength is not defending but his ability to rebound and run and carry.

Dusty is a star but his skills are best suited to attacking he is not a star defender.

Yes I know. All I will say is Houli played a brilliant defensive game in the grand final including immense tackles and spoiling. I have no doubt given a job he could be as defensively minded as anyone else on guys like Castagna and Rioli who do tend to go missing a lot at times. But that's not our game to be purely defensively minded for those two guys Houli and Vlastuin. More a role the likes of Astbury and Broad would play.

You are right yandb by say that defending is not Bachar's main strength but I reckon the feeling many had that he is a poor defender has been proven incorrect in recent years. He can defend and he does when required but we just don't want him to have to all the time because we need his run and carry.

Who did Houli play on in the GF?

If you are lose man it is easy to spoil and lay tackles.

In the Brisbane game round 23 Houli had an ordinary game as for once he had to play on a player. (no free stats via the kickout duties)

Disagree. If you're playing loose man it's harder to get to contests to spoil and lay tackles. Do you think Jack Graham gets his tackles by playing loose? No he's on a player ready to pounce. I still find it mildly amusing that some still argue that Houli is not a good defender. Simply at AFL level in the side that has the best defense in the league you simply wouldn't get to play in the backline if you aren't a good defender. Some of Houli's defensive work in the grand final was sublime.

Really? He had 30 disposals (27 efficient) and 548 metres gained in Round 23. The kickout thing is a total furphy. I showed plenty of times this year that Houli's number of kick outs was nowhere near what some were making them out to be. Kickouts were actually spread a round quite a bit.
