Thanks Rosy - the magic of youtube. I guess it might discourage them tho, if it weren't a matter of escaping from somthing.

Might depend how tasty the frog looks on the other side. :hihi

Nutter. Given him a shot of inland taipan venom and see how he goes.

I once crawled through a bullant nest and got heaps of stings. Apart from the pain factor, there was quite a buzz as well.

Cats are probably better than dogs. Our cat was bitten several times but lives into her 20s when she was eventually killed by a wild cat. Cats go into shut down mode when bitten and are far more likely to survive. I wouldn't advocate using any animal that's likely to have a go at a snake as protection.

We had a gnarley old tom cat when we were kids. We lived in the bush outside Ballarat, heaps of snakes, tigers, blacks, browns and copperheads. This cat, a huge ginger tom, loved taking on big snakes, and possums, and rabbits, and birds. I have clear memories of him boxing a big brown snake up and striking with his paws, 5 metres away from me. He was an amazing cat, huge and feral when out in the bush, cute and cuddly with us kids. He wreaked havoc on wildlife, makes me cringe to think about it. He took on one snake too many and got bitten when he was about 15 or 16.

Anyone know anything about electronic snake repellers that are supposed to use sound to keep snakes away? They sound a bit dodgy, but after we found a baby brown in the house last night we figure they might be worth a look. Especially now the kids are old enough to roam the garden.

Has anyone tried them out?

was living in the bush until recently, had a couple of browns that hung around, if I was away for a few days in summer I had to make heaps of noise before entering my house. One slid underneath me when I was in my loungeroom, I was reading the paper with my feet up, about a 40cm brown. It didn't really worry me, it would be different with little kids. That was a massive brown snake year.

Lime is pretty toxic to have around kids. Not sure how effective it would be anyway.

Thats funny :D id do the same if i had no choice. However would it go in the circle if it had the choice?

As i said ...a deterrent. Its belly would be burnt from the lime till it sheds its skin. If i was in a ring of fire... id jump through it to get out as well. Just saying

Yep I reckon a ring of fire around the yard would be a better deterrent than lime.

I live in NNSW tigersnake think it might be a big year for snakes (dryer conditions maybe), next door neighbour got bitten by a brown Sunday morning spent the night in hospital, so take care PREers.
