Bit of summer boredom but how many elite players are needed to win a flag.Is it more important to have a group of 5 elite with a lot of B graders or is it better to have a team with mainly A graders.

A champion team will beat a team of champions.  Option A works well for junior footy but I'd go option B for AFL.
I don't know what kind of player would be elite compared to A grade though.

Forgot to put in my reason behind this thought with very few draftees each year(if any)turning into elite players is it better to try and get players who will almost certainly play x roles or take punts on kids who could turn out stars but have major deficiances/attitude.It seems to me a real risk reward situation if you keep getting B- A grade types you will almost certainly play finals football for sometime but may not get a flag ,but if you go for highly gifted players who could be anything you may get a flag or may well spend more time at the bottom.Tough job been a recrutier

I do not think there is a number you can put on that sort of question. You obviously need some A graders but not necessarily 5.
I think its more up to the coach and his game plan and if the players he has got can excute it.But you definitley need the Browns and Richos.

Well we already have 1: Kayne Pettifer! (Sorry, I couldn't help myself. It was only a matter of time before someone said this)

He had an alright season last year, no superstar if he does what he did last season this season i will be wrapped.

This is always a good one to think about and always brings me back to the Geelong teams that couldnt win a Grand Final even loaded with stars, of which one G Ablett the great man was the king.
All premiership sides need game breakers who are a cut above you cant win a flag without em but a champion team often prevails over a team of champions, the aussies versus the world 11 was a good advertisement for that theory.

Still goggy,
was that Foggy or Groggy, perhaps Soggy from NYE and lack of sleep induced by the heat.

Elite players, I am trying to work out how many Elite players were on Sydney's list this year and the number on West Coasts. I think that eagles would win that hands down.

If we were to take this Elite player count to the next level, probably the best AFL lists would be St Kilda, West Coast, Geelong.
Other teams with Multiples Elites are probably rebuilding Essendon, Brisbane, Collingwood, Port.
Teams on the verge of the next step. Bulldogs, Melbourne, Freo, Adelaide, Tiges?

See you in the year 2525, Carlton, Hawthorn, North.
