PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

So with the seasons end fast approaching delistings and retirements are fast becoming as issue.

I've been thinking about this for a while and here is what I think will happen.

Definite delistings:

- Tivendale
- Hyde
- Silvester
- Howat

all not up to it, merely depth players

Potential delistings:

- Cartledge (high possibility, may hang on to for another yr though in case of injury to Simmo)
- Jackson (potential to stay)
- Casserley (still yet to debut, struggling to get a sniff)
- Pettifer (would've probably been traid bait but now?)
- Collard (would be unlucky)
- Meyer (almost certainly another yr)
- Cogs (if he does another injury he may be gone but we'll likely keep for another yr)

Potential trade bait

- Raines, a bit out of favour has showed he's up to it but could represent a little bit of value. Worth about a second rounder, still young. Will hold on to if not offered enough
- JON, IMO we will keep him however he could potential be involved in a trade. Still very young and raw, room for improvement however WCE were red hot for him when drafted, he could potentially be involved in some sort of deal...
- Tambling, for the right price, unlikely though, one of TW faves
- Schulz, unlikely to leave but would trade for the right price

Potential players to trade for

- Robert Warnock, still struggling to get a game at Freo, the tiges definitely need a young ruckman over 2M that shows more ability in the ruck than Graham or Patto and one that is further developed than Putt. Direct swap for JON, could be pushing it... maybe a shuffle of later picks as well
- Kerr, only for the right price. I don't think we'll give up our first rounder but potentially 2nd rounder + a player. Maybe 2nd rounder + Tambling. Again this is a little in our favour and I think we'd be stupid to give up too much for him given his off field record.

Unless there's another big name or need we have to trade for I think we'll be reasonably quiet during trade week. Will potentially trade a player for a pick to get more youngsters before the GC draft concessions come in.

Drafting

I think the needs we have at the moment are for "bigger footballers." We have plenty of flankers and small/skinny fast players. The key areas we need young talent are a 188cm+ big bodied mid, a 195cm+ KPP and a 2M+ ruckmen, another one other than Putt and Graham. This will obviously depend on whether or not we trade for a young ruck.

I think we'll go on best available between the mid and KPP with our first pick and then fill the other two needs with our next picks. Then use pick up another mid and KPP with our remaining picks.

We're starting to get some serious depth in terms of younger players, IMO the only real trouble area is our ruck division, the rest of the areas where players will be departing due to age over the coming years are covered. Things are looking up for 2009
