English Premier League 2007-08.

Arsene signs another teenager to add to the Arsenal academy. It's becoming a bit of a joke really. Do we want to win trophies or make money on training up kids?

Chelsea have announced Portugal national team boss Phil Scolari as their new manager.

Probably as good of a choice as any.
At least he has some pedigree with Brazil and getting Portugal to the final of the Euro last time.
But as we know, managing a nation and managing a club on a day-to-day basis are completely different, so it will be interesting to see how he goes.
He'll show a bit more emotion during matches than Avram Grant did, that's for sure.

So what do the Chelski fans on here think? Happy with the appointment? or?

Scolari did coach Brasil to the final of the world cup, but got the ass.

He hasnt done enough with Portugal in my mind, they should have won the Euro2004, I tipped them to win the WC they finished 3rd but they are off to a flyer at the Euro this year.

Anyone for David Villa? He isnt playing CL this year as Valencia didnt make the top 4 in Spain, he might be on the move, but the hat-trick the other night increased his value by 10m.

Quaresma is on the move from Porto from what I here also.

Wenger likes the tall agile players, so if Drogba goes to Inter like I think he should keep a close eye on Zlatan.

He actually hasn't done much at club level in Europe at all if you look at his record:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luiz_Felipe_Scolari

So it will be interesting to see how he handles the egocentric members of his squad.

Already rumours of Deco going to Chelsea.....which can only mean Lampard out? :don't know
Why else would you want Deco when you already have Lampard and Ballack in the position?

I'd love to have him next to Fernando but it won't happen.
Chelsea already interested as is ManUre.

He has been linked to Liverpool for the last 2 or 3 seasons and it never eventuates.
Apparently as a youngster, he had more 'natural talent' than Ronaldo, but his attitude is a lot different and so he hasn't progressed as far.
With our spine world class and the need for some decent wide players, then it would be nice to see him go to the red-half of the Mersey, but I won't be holding my breath.

The Swedish version of Anelka... ;)
If I was Wenger I would stay away.

True Cesc says Villa wants Villa to head our (arsenal's) way. I think he may go to the EPL, he has a bit of grunt in him unlike a Morientes who was a flop in the EPL.

Quaresma has been linked to Inter, but I rate him as one of the best in the world.

Deco will probably leave Barca but the EPL might be too gung ho for him, although I dont think he would right it off. Same with Roni, but even when teams try to hack him he still glides by, I still think in Ronaldinho can offer more, he just had an off year. It will be big if Man City knab him.

I personally dont like Scolari that much, but who knows why Chelsea got him, maybe to send a few Portugese players to Chelsea?

Off topic, I welcome Nathan Burns to AEK Athina from Adelaide FC, he is only 20 and will play with Rivaldo as a AM. A few of my mates take the aussie flag when they go, but this time it will be for another reason.

I said at the start I wanted Hughes and Scolari was my second choice.

I'm therefore happy (Hughes was always a punt due to inexperience.)

The question I would ask the doubters is, who was better? Ancelotti said no so that left us with a bunch of younger guys with doubts on them - Rijkaard, Mancini, Deschamps. All of those guys have more toprove than Scolari. Big Phil may have some cv issues but with the team he will have we needed a strong manager and he is certainly that. Don't forget we just missed winning the Champions League, the Premier League and the League Cup with a guy who we made manager because he was walking past pushing a broom at the time we needed one.

We now have a chance of keeping who we want to keep (Lamps, Carvalho) and getting some real quality in. At this stage it's hard to know who we are really "up" for. Anyone who has a big name has been linked at this stage - Kaka, Torres, Villa, Eto'o, Robinho, Ronaldinho, Deco.

Scolari is reported to feel we are fine up back and in the midfield so he'll be looking at wide players and strikers (good! After his goal tonight maybe we can get Robben back? ;D ). Ronaldinho is reported to have shown interest and assured Phil he is motivated and not past it. Whether he has actually spoken to anyone however is doubtful gfiven Phil's a little busy right now. With all that is being reported at the moment no-one would have time for sleep.

Anyway, after worrying about keeping our players and missing out on recruiting due to a lack of manager I'm now looking forward to next season big time. I've managed to do a deal with a guy to have his reserved seats for the season so I'm set and looking forward to Big Phil scaring the bejesus out of Fergie.

All over the papers - Chelsea to bid £40 m for Torres seeking to exploit the ownership frictions between Gillett and Hicks. Torres is (reportedly - careful) said to have confided to friends that he'd consider moving to the Bridge.

It's also reported that Villa wants to go to Liverpool. Maybe they can switch Spanish strikers and take some cash as well?

:rofl
Torres to Chelsea? Won't happen.
I was thinking more along the lines of why not put Villa with Torres at Liverpool?
That has been the rumour circulating on one of the Liverpool forums I frequent.
Only sticking point is that Chelsea have offered more...even Barca have pulled the pin on trying to get him so I can't see Liverpool getting him myself, but you never know.

Don't laugh too much> Liverpool just lost GBP33 million last year.

That's not much to worry about...equals two players (Crouch and Alonso).
Add to the probable sales of Voronin, Riise, Carson, etc....no problem.

Sure, we'll buy a couple in as well to offset the ones we sell/lose but not many clubs make money at the top these days, it is all about tax dodges and moving money around to suit the tax man.

We;ll be o.k.

Secondly, Nike wouldn't be making this their new commercial:

...if Torres wasn't planning on staying there! ;)

I see it looks like Villa will knock back Chelsea and wants to stay in Spain (Real or Barca) although reports are that he likes Rafa (Rafa was manager at Valencia and took them to the La Liga title, not sure if Villa was there then though.)
He is also good mates with Torres.
Still can't see it happening....but you never know.... ;)

Ooooh...just saw this rumour...I like, I like, I like.... 8)

Villa Tempted By Liverpool Move
Spanish striker David Villa has admitted that the prospect of moving to England and playing for Liverpool is an attractive one, stating that the idea of linking up with former Valencia coach Rafael Benítez is tempting...
Villa, 26, is currently one of the hottest properties in Europe having already scored four goals in two games for his country at Euro 2008.
The Valencia striker who will quit the Mestalla this summer had been reported as saying he would prefer to remain in Spain, despite interest from several Premier League clubs.
Yet it now appears that the lure of Liverpool, with their Spanish contingent, including manager Rafael Benitez and fellow striker Fernando Torres, may have changed his mind.
“Liverpool and Chelsea are both big clubs with a lot of attraction,” he said before adding, “Liverpool have a Spanish coach and I also have a lot of friends there.”

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is clearly a fan of the striker having previously tried, unsuccessfully, to sign Villa when he was Valencia manager, something Villa is aware of. He said: “When Rafa was coach at Valencia and I was at Zaragoza there was contact about me joining Valencia but I couldn’t arrive until the year after he left there.”
Villa eventually signed for Valencia from Zaragoza in 2005 and has gone on to make 101 appearances for the club, scoring 58 goals.
He is currently playing for Spain in Euro 2008 and after scoring a hat trick in his opening game against Russia, went on to hit a last minute winner against Sweden last night to send his side through to the quarter finals of the competition.

So is Drogba staying or what?
No news is good news i suppose.

So far, so good, you'd have to say.
Maybe he will decide to stay now that you have Scolari but surely Carvalho hasn't helped his cause with what he said yesterday.

what did he say.

This:

Carvalho swipe at Blues
Defender not happy with Grant treatment
Last updated: 15th June 2008
Ricardo Carvalho's future at Chelsea appears far from certain after he attacked the club for sacking Avram Grant.
The Portuguese central defender has been strongly linked with a summer move to Internazionale where he would link-up with former boss Jose Mourinho.
Speaking from Austria & Switzerland, where he is currently with the Portugal squad competing in Euro 2008 - Carvalho revealed his displeasure at the way in which Chelsea axed Grant.
Grant took over from Mourinho last season and guided the club to second in the Premier League and also to the UEFA Champions League final - where they lost on penalties to Manchester United, but that was still not good enough for the Blues hierarchy.
"Avram did a great job, but they still decided to sack him," Carvalho told the Sunday Times.
"Yet after Jose Mourinho left, he picked up the team and got good results.
"It was very cruel. He did a great job and he could have carried on, but they decided to let him go. It was very ruthless.
"The new manager will be my third in a year, and in football you need stability if you want to be successful."

Inter interest
Carvalho also spoke about the possible interest from Mourinho's new club Inter.
"There has been a lot of talk about the new manager and players coming and
going," he added.
"I know there are stories about me, too, and in football you never know what
can happen.
"But I have a contract at Chelsea and I have not spoken to Jose Mourinho about
Inter Milan, or to my agent (Jorge Mendes) about a move."
