English Premier League threads [Merged]

Just had a thought - where are the Spurs posse that were so vocal at the start of the season #anotheryeargone #bringbackharry #underachievers

Much rather support a club like Crystal Palace that bats above itself nearly every year.

Sunderland 1-0 over Manure.....and they sacked Moyes... :rofl

Fulham and Cardiff.... gone, and a win to Chelsea tonight will also relegate Norwich.

Palace v Liverpool is now a huge game on Monday with Man City's 1 game advantage.

Still here but becoming a realist. The more I look at the EPL, it's pure dollars. Nothing more. Still love it. But this talks for itself.

Spurs £98M, Liverpool £112M, Arsenal £116M, Man Utd £166M, Man City £186M, Chelsea £191M.

That's the Average total cost of starting XI this season. Spurs will have the 7th highest wage bill and will finish in the top 7. They will be way behind the other 6 teams in the top 7 in terms of wages and turnover. Yet apparently they are apparently becoming a bit of a joke. They are actually doing perfectly well, in fact possible a bit better than they should be given their size.Modern Premiership football is about money. What has happened to Spurs actually proves than more than anything. Look at how well they did investing a good young talent and finding value abroad. They went from mid table failures to CL challengers and when their time came look what happened. Man City over night became the wealthiest club in the world. Spurs have finished in the top 5 for the last 4 seasons and would have been in the CL every year had Man City not come along. They'd have done so on a far lower budget than anyone else, yet instead of Premier League football fans acknowledging this and crediting them for a great job, they are seen as a joke. That's the reality of Prem football.

Heh heh....Good ol' Jose must've thrown a few tantrums yesterday with the Canaries parking 'his' bus in defence.

A draw just gives Norwich a slight chance into saving their EPL spot all depending on WBA beating Sunderland, who are being investigated.

Must win game for Liverpool against Palace tomorrow morning.

Not WTF but How TF?? did Palace get 3 goals back?

From 3-0 to 3-3.......farrrrrrrr.......

This is why I dropped off supporting Liverpool in the mid-90s...chokers!!!.....equivalent to how bad we were then!!

Ah, me old mate Liverpuddle must be having a melt down right now. I can keep using the "Liverpool have never won the EPL" insult for at least another season yet.

It ain't over til it's over. All depends on Manchester Heart City now... ;D

what about the players crying on the field? Bit pathetic.

Soccer players don't really subscribe to Jack Dyer's mantra of 'never let 'em know you're hurt' do they?

Manchester Heart will grab this opportunity with both hands and they won't drop it, mark my words. And with Chelsea, Man U, the Arse etc all set to throw money at their squads in the off season, Liverpool's best chance to win the title for 20 years has gone begging.

LOL

Villa and Hammers could be easy games, but as we've seen with Palace v Chelsea, anything could happen.

Will the Shiekh shriek? ;D

Don't know about Man U, they can wave the chequebook all they want but without the sweetener of European football next season, I don't see how they will attract the big money signings, why go to Man U when you can just go to Chelsea, Liverpool, arsenal or man city and be guaranteed champions league football.

I hate Liverpool as much as the next person but they are an attractive proposition for next season at least considering they have banked a champions league spot, this is uncharted waters for Man U and were about to find out how attractive they are without the added benefit of European football.

Looks like Citeh are going to Bradbury it. Fair enough too. We don't deseve it and Liverpool are well, Liverpool.

At last some recognition in the Aussie media for the great man. Like all Crystal Palace fans - Love, love, love, this guy. Seriously the biggest reason we've got to where we are from 18 months ago.

The only Socceroo starring at the top level to boot.

Socceroo Mile Jedinak has not missed a minute in Crystal Palace’s Premier League campaign
DAVID WEINER FOX SPORTS MAY 08, 2014 6:22AM SHARE

Mile Jedinak produced yet another impressive performance in Crystal Palace's comeback draw with Liverpool on Tuesday morning and the English tabloids haven't failed to recognise his contributions this season.

Crystal Palace's Mile Jedinak is growing in stature.Crystal Palace's Mile Jedinak is growing in stature. NO one in the Barclays Premier League has made more tackles (131) and more interceptions (137) than Australian Mile Jedinak.

Not only has the former Central Coast Mariners midfielder gone on to captain Crystal Palace in the Barclays Premier League this season, but he’s one of only two outfield players to have been on the pitch for every single minute of the 37 games thus far (Cardiff City’s Steven Caulker is the other) – an incredible effort for a combative, deep-lying midfielder who had previously been prone to picking up yellow cards.

The Socceroos might be short of a defender or two in Lucas Neill’s absence but one thing it won’t lack is strong leadership. Jedinak will more than likely take over the captains’ armband on a full-time basis at the World Cup – and he is well-equipped to do so.

There can be no denying his influence on this Palace line-up in the top flight of English football: he’s a real leader of men. His teammates respect him, his coaches adore him and he’s a fan favourite at Selhurst Park.

The man who signed him to the club from Gençlerbirliği, Ian Holloway, had this to say about his captain last season:

“If a bomb dropped right next to him he wouldn’t panic.

“He could see it was ticking, he’d make sure he got everyone else out - he would lead the situation and get it sorted. End of story.

“He gives immense strength to everyone else. The bloke is completely and utterly immense mentally.

“His strength is as good as anybody I’ve ever seen or worked with - it’s top, top drawer. Our lads are looking at him saying ‘thank god he’s playing for us.”

Once Holloway was sacked this season, replaced by Tony Pulis, Jedinak had nothing to worry about.

The former Stoke City boss is just as big a fan.

“Mile is fantastic and he leads by example,” he said.

“I am delighted with his efforts and how he drags people along with him.

“We did talk about him at Stoke, but we didn’t get close to it, so you could say I have admired him from a distance, but I admire him even more so now having worked with him.”

It is astonishing to think that Jedinak was overlooked by every club for the first season of the A-League, as he has been a pivotal reason for Palace’s success this term – a model of consistency, a defensive workhorse sitting in front of the back four and the fulcrum in Palace’s midfield.

Indeed, it’s ironic that the Eagles were the ones to put a further dent in Liverpool’s title hopes, because they had arguably been the form Premier League outfit of 2014, behind Liverpool, with a spectacular run of five straight wins that saw the side climb into top flight safety.

Dwight Gayle says it was his strike partner that helped him seal a Palace draw and hand Manchester City a likely title victory
The skipper was at his industrious, inspirational best again in the crazy mid-week comeback from 3-0 down, even forcing a spectacular save from goalkeeper Simon Mignolet with a fizzing long-range drive.

“It’s hard to explain but I think determined is the word that best sums it up. We let them play their game and we are very harsh on ourselves when we concede a set-piece so we thought we let them in a little bit too easily for our liking,” he said after the 3-3 draw.

“We stayed strong after it went to 3-0 and still had a go and got the bodies forward, and slowly it went to 3-1 and then 3-2 and then I just had the feeling that they were a little bit rattled. I thought if we kept going we might have a chance here and luckily enough we did.

Liverpool's title hopes are left in tatters with an unhelpful 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace
“I thought all the finishes tonight were great. Gayley was brilliant when he came on and the energy he and Glenn Murray injected was fantastic.

“I’m over the moon with the lads for their efforts in that final 20 minutes to keep on pushing.”

Next stop, it’s Brazil, where Jedinak will get the chance to further his reputation against Chile, Netherlands and Brazil.

He’s spent the past year as a small fish in a big pond, helping Palace battle its way to survival in the EPL elite. He’ll need to bring all of those qualities to the table to help galvanise Ange Postecoglou’s unheralded side against the Group B giants too.
