Evaluating Mongrel

As a boy I can remember reading a quote about how Sheedy would "run through his own grandmother if Tom Hafey asked him to". The game's changed and that win-at-all-costs attitude seems to be very rare these days, at least at Richmond. Our last premiership side was packed with players who were tough, mean, or both.

I'll never forget when Libba belted Knighter and all Campbell could do was grab Libba's jumper and wrestle him. Worse than the hit on Knights was the look of scorn on Libba's face as he laughed at Campbell.
Yeah 6pack I've never been so embarrassed to see a RFC captain running around pretending to shape up to Libba and then running off. To me that said it all.

Or Baker king hit on "Sugar" :-[
Who flew the flag, should have bashed the pr$#@, done some games, but had to be done.
No more bloody embarassments please. Pride in yourself and the jumper. Don't wait for someone else to do it, be prepared to do it yourself. >:(

Campbell was a wimp.

:clap G'day everyone. It finally took a thread like this for me to gather the courage and submit my first post. For some strange reason I strongly agree with one aspect of Dyer Disciple's evaluation that Rance could become that "mongrel" element we've been searching for. Prior to the draft, a mate and I were looking at the mug shots of the supposed top picks, and I still remember looking at Rance and telling the mate that I would pick him, even before Kruezer. After some quick thought and deliberation we both concluded that he looks like his got the goods to become one of the "feared ones". Dunno why - but something tells me we've found our "Gorilla" tamer in the back line. Wait and see. There, got that off my chest (can't believe am actauly nervous writing this). Keep up the good work guys. Go Tiges !

Welcome R4R good post 1st up mate, no need to be nervous expressing your opinion, we've all got them and a good variety as well.
Look forward to sharing more of your thoughts ;)
And reckon you & DD might be on the money regarding Rance, time will tell as he's still got a way to develop, but reckon he may be a beauty

Welcome to PRE R_for_Richmond....

It's not the be all and end all, but one things that gives me faith is pedigree.

Rance comes from a old school family. His father was tough and came from a tough era.

There is a player running around at the moment, who is the son of Mal Brown, if you didn't know that and looked at him as rookie...you would think....about 5'10" how could he play a key defensive role? Yet he plays tall as he is super aggressive.

I feel Rance has more raw talent than Campbell and he is certainly bigger.

I have no doubt Campbell's father raised him to be a "man" on the football field.

I'm hoping Rance's father is the same. If so, we have a beauty.

Mal Michael was a rookie from memory, I am hoping Rance will end up a more mobile version of him.

Not known for his size/height, but when you meet him, sheesh he is a gorilla in a suit.

tuck is the best boxer at the club. apparently he just goes nuts in the ring.

also heard how when limbach first came to the club he thought he try to have an easy boxing session and picked krak to go toe to toe with, he got floored about 4 times hahaha.

Not surprised about Tuck he has that mad stare like Scotty Turner had and Jake King has the same look.

Krak was apparently very good in the ring and apparently Ray Hall used to be the best boxer at the club. Never would have picked old Razor, but they reckon he went alright.

You just reminded me of the time Razer smacked the fat Cloke (Cameron for the uninformed) in the jaw and concussed him a couple of years ago. Tribunal had the nerve to suspend him when they should of been congratulating him.

weak as pess cloke, he took a dive ;D
been concussed since and the rest of the family caught it, it can be highly contagious in some quarters

Would like to see Tucky "needled up" before the game against Carlton and let rip on Judd. Another priority task for Guru Bond.

And wasn't that the day he and travis oh so courageously ganged up on Lids? If there's one thing I can't stand its that sort of cowardly bullying behaviour in packs. The dawks are becoming the worst offenders in this regard.

I would love to see "Little River" Rance throw around some weight in the backline, after all he will be in amongst Bowden, McGuane and Thursfield who are as clean as they come!

...loved watching thursty belting big nick in the head every time he went for a mark in the game he did his knee in.

Aah, so that game WASN'T just a figment of my imagination! Wallace's refusal to play the same matchup this year made me doubt whether the spanking Will gave Nick ever actually happened :shakehead . Thanks for setting my mind at ease...and yes, it was beautiful to watch. He was goal-less until Will did his knee near 3/4 time if I remember correctly.

Mate, you're bringing back memories of the demolition jobs Chubba used to do on Aaron Hamill. He used to be scared to go near the ball as Kellaway would be in his face the whole match - beautiful to watch.

A Cloke getting a smack in the head= a good day for football

Gotta say I thought the introduction of David King to the Tiges backline team would bring a bit of mongrel. I hated him as a player but always thought we could use a bit of that under-handed filth he always brought to the game. >:D Haven't seen it though?

I'm a fan of the "make sure they know they've been tackled" type of play. Bring 'em to the ground, throw a bit of body weight at them, sit on them a bit (David King was great at tying a bloke up behind play, which created a loose man in the mid-field).

I saw Richo get frustrated one day against Carlton. I think he was being dragged (might be 6-8 years ago now) and had to run 100m to get to the bench. He had up quite a head of steam. A blue-bagger didn't see him coming and the big fella let out his frustrations. I think they paid the free kick down the field, Carlton bloke didn't get up for about 2 minutes. :hihi I thought it might have been a turning point, but I've rarely seen it since.
