Surely the excitement he has given us supporters about the year ahead is worth his selection alone.

Our team, with Cousins now in the fold, plus our improvement over the last half of last year, natural progression of our youngsters, and the loss of perennial losers such as Tivendale and Hyde has got me more excited about a season than I can ever remember.

In the past, we would have had an aging team of dropkicks, with holes all over the field and THEN pick up some experienced player and be expected to be happy.

This time is completely different.

We're strong off the field financially for the first time in 20+ years, have list managers and management with some balls, have a proven coach that actually makes sense when he talks for the first time in 25 years, have some actual depth in most positions on the field and THEN we've added a Brownlow medalist to top that all off. I've got butterflies just thinking about the possibilities of the next few years. AND we've got some intelligent Tiger people back at the club in Campbell and Sheedy.

So even if Cousins doesn't work out, the exciting thought of the possibilities of where this team is headed is worth his selection alone.

I'm more prouder, and more in love with this club, than I have ever been since I was born in 83.

Congrats Richmond. I'm bloody proud to be a Tiger supporter right now. :clap :hearton

I agree completly jinx, i was pumped and incredibly excited when the season was over thinking how good is next year going to be, then we pick up both vickery and cousins!! Off season doesn't get any better than this as far as i'm concerned!!

I know I might be shot down, but Tivva and Hyde IMO did their best, so be it if we lost a bit when they were there but, Richo has been in the team longer, what will you say about him?

very excited about cousins. but i think with all this cousins hype, alot of the media/other supporters seem to believe that we're hanging our hopes all on cousins. i don't think that's true. before we even contemplated drafting cousins, i reckon most supporters were already quite optimistic about our chances for top 8 next season. Having cousins now is just the icing on the cake really. not THE reason we'll make finals.

tho i do think the presence of cousins will give us that much more lift and confidence just like what judd did for carlton.

apart from the onfield contribution, the way he trains and plays would help our young midfielders so much now and well into the future. i recall a interview by kerr last season where he mentioned how cousins' training habits was a huge factor in kerr and judd's development as players. they just tried to do everything cousins did on the training tracks.

oh deary me.what improvement over the last bit of last yr. we lost just two poor aged footballers. cousins a 31 yr old a good footballer with his best behind him. natural progression of youngsters what youngsters most have entered the core group stage.

for your information we have 6 30 plus yr olds who terry heavily relies on that seems to me a reliance on ageing dropkicks. we still have holes we are hoping that the retreads we have taken can fill some of those holes nothing in stone there.

we picked up an ageing player and no ferals had better like it they have made their beds. this time is no different a quick fix is always a quick fix. they sometimes help short term but usually hurt long term.

hmm finacially strong sheesh 4 mil+ in debt and we are strong ::) our list management and managers caved into the mob hardly strong. i would say they lack balls.
personally im going to be weak as *smile* and say welcome ben i hope you do well but crikey it will not cloud my opinion of the performance of the rabble.

ok letr get things straight here.How old is the cuss? according to Mike sheahan he just turned 30

Agree I would have been looking to push for the eight this year even if Cousins had not come along with the development of the young players & thier bodies maturing I really think we can take the next step hopefully we can start the year the way we finished 08!!

claw, I never miss a your drum beating when scrolling thru threads on PRE;
Infact, I've noticed your strike rate of posting in the last 48 hours has almost peaked to a career high;
You wouldn't say that a one, Ben Cousins has drawn you closer to PRE?
Personally (IMO) I dont think your weak as *smile*, I think you cant wait for the season to start (with Ben Cousins in our side).

Yep let's pretend our aging core whom we relied so much on last year is ageless (and will perform the same feats again this year), that our non-competitiveness against almost every team of quality last year was an abberation, that we are structurally sound balanced list across the park and that we are the only club with youngsters that have any promise (even though we try our best to stock up on recycled players whenever half a chance presents itself). I'll be excited when we start topping up at a shot at the flag and not merely to try and sneak into the finals to save the salaries of our coaching staff.

ha well the bugger can play theres no denying that. theres so much hype on this site atm i just thought i would attempt to keep things in perspective. as the unofficial perspective keeper of this site i feel beholden to do it. :hihi
ive never said the bloke cant play but i reckon i have valid reasons mostly non football for not wanting him.i will stick to my guns and see how it pans out.
ya know i feel for the bloke in lots of ways i hope he changes himself his friends his manager and his lifestyle and shoves it up cynics like me i wont be holding my breath and until he earns my respect he just wont get it.
in a footy sense am i looking forward to seeing him play in a rfc jumper the answer is yes.

oh and finally im glad so many are happy i wish i could join them but i think its something that will bite us on the arse. each to his own opinion.

I'm also unbelievably excited, but the equation for Terry Wallace next year is simple, finals or bust. If we once again fail to make the finals, he's gone without a doubt.

Made my first sign for 2009. Let me paint a picture with my imagination brush.

Benny kicks a goal roving off the pick, high fives are being given out at a amzing rate. Ch7 pans to the crowd and my sign reads this

"Benny C- What a snorta!".

No? Have to go back to the drawing board for round 2.

It's an opinion shared Clawed One. A person would have to be mad not to carry some hope of Cousins doing well next year. But it is hope.........

Hey Claw, can you PM me on how I can invite you to join a drafting comp in the off-season............ don;t think you get the PM's people send ;)

Surely though Claw the pick we used on Cousins could never have reaped the benefits we will see from Cousins regardless of if & how much he plays,from the youngster we were thinking bout.We picked up 4 rookies & anyone of them can be promoted if good enough
