Everitt & Hawks split

From your guys perspective do you reckon we did the right thing letting him? 2 years is abit risky, considering Crawf and Dixon only took one year, and both had better years than Spider.

Personally I reckon we'll go after Gardiner for a 4th Round pick (which we wouldn't have used anyway) if we feel he sounds committed when we inevitably interview him; then try to get a young fringe player with a bit of potential for spider maybe, or try to upgrade our draft pick again.

I think so realist. You cant have a player trying to dictate terms like that, especially at his age, and especially considering Crawford and Dixon put aside pride to do the right thing. It just sends the wrong message, and realistically like Richmond, the Hawks are looking down the track a bit for ultimate success, and dont need the Spider's of the world holding you to ransom. As a ruckman Everitt's days are numbered at his age, he may be useful up forward, but from what O can see the Hawks have some promising key position players anyway.

Hi realist.
Personally I think the Hawks are spot on with their one year policy for players over 30.
Adelaide have the same rules in place, regardless of the player involved. If those guidelines are firmly in place then all players know the rules. It doesn't discriminate whatsoever. if the player wants to leave that's fine they can test the waters elsewhere.
Common sense the way the game is today. I wish Richmond had the same policy, even for a player of Richo's standing.

I think Everitt could be a good player for a side like the Swans if his body can hold up. He is very aware of his footballing mortality and honestly believes that the Swans can win another one. His motivation at Hawthorn has been very poor this season, but it wouldn't be the same issue for him in Sydney.

Rayzorwire is wrong about Everitt's early season form, btw, as he was quite poor in three of the Hawks four wins early. That said, Hawthorn lacks ruck depth and will have to chase another ruckman, Gardiner presumably, to ensure it has the necessary four on the list for 2007.

As I see it, Hawthorn is as happy for him to be going as Everitt is to be moving on. His $700k salary is a bit rich for the blood at this stage of his career and the club was hardly impressed at how open he was with his desire to join the Swans this time last year. What tends to be forgotten in the discussion surrounding Hawthorn's '1-year contract for veterans' policy, is that two years ago, Everitt himself stated that he would be looking for 1 year contracts to see out his career, as he wasn't sure how much further he could go. His view on this has changed since he learnt Sydney were interested and despite talk to the contrary, I expect him to sign a 3 year contract with the Swans.

when are some of you gonna learn?

us and the hawks started rebuilding the same time and 2 years on they are getting rid of their final piece of junk like everitt while our supporters want kellaway and gaspar resigned, want to have a look at everitt, kingsley, bradshaw, michael, akermanis etc

what a joke
Aker & Bradshaw have 2or 3 years left...both have kept themselves in good order physically, both have performed at the top level. Tezza has a "5 yr" plan that began 2005...ergo that means that 07, 08 & 09 are going to be key in the long term development of the club. These guys can help us along if we are fortunate enough to get them.

The joke is the "shooting from the hip" comment from our erstwhile colleague evanstone.

As I recalled it he was in very good form early CK, but on reflection it didn't necessarily coincide with their wins. He did have a mammoth input into some of their early losses by way of keeping them in the game, plus his 30 hitout 20 poss effort in rd.5 where they won by a point could easily be seen as a game where he was THE decisive factor on the ground.

My major point is that in a year people are sh!tcanning his form, he still averaged more hitouts playing injured at times than our 'AA ruckman' did for the season - and I don't doubt that he had a better average of hitouts to advantage.

I'm just trying to put people's view that he is 'past it' based on form while often injured this year into proper perspective.
