Geez he's good Wallet! Here he goes again this time re; Cam Howat. He was always the most likely player to be pumped up next with Cogs going down. Others to receive the royal (or should I say, Wallace ahem) treatment have been;
Cleve Hughes. Why? Answer- Because of all the conjecture about our recruitment style (mids over Kpps)
Krak. Why? Answer- Obviously needed some positive spin because of the impending court case
Richo. Why? Answer- The back spasm was obviously a concern
Browny. Why? Answer- The club needed something positive straight after Cogs injury and no better candidate than the proverbial match winner who had fallen on hard times.
Tambling. Why? Answer- Obviously the Franklin vs Tambling debate and probably to put him under the pump early. (footnote- Notice that Wallet hasn't talked up his Intraclub performance despite the fact that he really gunned it!) Great thinking!
Polak, Polak, Polak. Why? Answer- I'm not even touching this one as it is so bleeding obvious!!!
Knobel. Why? Answer- He's under enormous pressure IMHO.

Any suggestions for the next candidate? I throw one at you. Danny Meyer. Why? Answer- probably similar reasons to Trent Knobel. He is under pressure (more so than any of the Fab 5). Did anyone hear (or participate in) the bronx jeers/cheers in the 2nd quarter of the Intraclub match when he took a mark in the back pocket? He really seemed to pull his finger out after that. Was still disappointing in general though.

Anyway, I've had my 5am rant and I'm back off to bed. :spin

Richmond has a large news hungry supporter base, especially in February.

So the club tries to meet the demand with a positive news supply.

Simple and without the secret conspiracy ;)

its that time of year thats all, anyway are you just getting home at 5am Harro you naughty naughty man >:D

Why does TW talk up his players? Why not? It's good for morale twofold: for their morale and for the morale of the supporters/members etc.

What would you prefer him to say? "Yeah I think getting Knobel was a big mistake, he's a lumbering dud and I wish he was still at St Kilda" ?

With your logic he can't talk up anyone because there'd be an ulterior motive behind it.

1. Chris Newman: coming back from injury and needs a pump. Good news story (like Browny) after Cogs injury
2. Darren Gaspar: just missed on the chop (AK got it instead) on last legs. needs a pump up.
3. Brett Deledio: will be playing down back and needs to be pumped up as a gun backman.
4. Andrew Raines: may get second year blues. Needs a pump up to try and get confidence up to avoid them.
5. Troy Simmonds: 5 year contract, still needs to be justified.
7. Nathan Brown: well you've already done this one.
8. Kayne Pettifer: maligned player, tell supporters how the inner sunctum thinks he's a gun
11. Joel Bowden: another maligned player, didnt have his best season last year and needs to be pumped back up again.
12. Richo: you've done this one
13. Knobel: you've done this one

well you get the picture. You've had a go at TW for backing 9 mentioned players. I can't beleive it, I'm genuinely stumped. I think the late night got the better of you Harro.

I wish Blx. No unfortunately a bad case of Conjunctivitis has kept me up. I suppose you could say that I really am a One Eyed supporter at the moment.

Harro, let me play a little devil's advocate with you. What if the mentioned players actually did play well - what should TW say then?

Hop, I think some of them genuinely have and hence the talking up. I'm certainly not thinking its a bad thing. After all we are right up to our necks in the membership drive. Good on him I say and Greenberg and others.
At least where we are concerned there is a bit of substance to talking things up. Carlton have done even more talking up than us but most of theirs is total damage control. Ours is more a result of the Simmonds and Cogs injuries that flattened us a bit.
Anyway, I suppose I have answer your question in the thread. Well, in relation to Tambo anyway.
