Every year there is that one game that destroys our season
Whilst it didn't destroy the season, the Collingwood NAB Cup Game made me realise that it was going to be another long year. Unfortunately, things have got even worse from that point on.
Just like my golf game - par one hole then a triple bogey on next.
Only problem is every hole now for us is like a triple bogey - getting frightened to tee up for the next :'(
It amazes me how deluded some supporters are. Did people actually think we had a good list and and a good game plan? Did people really think we'd make the finals and if we did, be competitive in them? Where did people get this level of enthusiasm from? The meaningless stretch of wins late last year against teams that had put the cue in the rack and were preparing for he national draft and the next year?
We've always lacked structure, quality, depth and a good game plan yet the majority of supporters refused to see this. Supporters would rather live in hope rather than reality. If you take a step back and took the blinkers off and really assessed our list with other lists in the comp, and compared our better players and upcoming youth to others you could clearly see that we were not even in the same ball park.
You need to grasp reality and it appears that those getting most upset are those who are far from it.
The most concerning aspect is the football department had a deluded opinion of the list illustrated by their topping up of the list with Thomson, Hislop and Cousins. This indicates that they don't have a grasp of reality and their positions need serious review. We need people in control of list management and recruitment who realise where we are at with our list and are strong and smart enough to follow strict philosophies in recruitment and development.
Losing all these games is the best for this club because it will force change in the football and list management positions and will give us some handy draft picks in this final uncompromsed draft. Hopefully we get a priority draft pick and 3 picks in the top 20 will be what we desperately need to get a jump start on what hopefully will a PROPER rebuild.
