Does anyone honestly believe today's decision changes the direction the richmond football club are heading? People are ringing SEN threatening to throw their memberships away if the club doesn't recruit cousins. My god I hope these supporters do because they're not true supporters.

The club has some fine people in charge making concise, calculated decisions based on what is best for the RFC, not what is best for the AFL, or Eddie, or Ben Cousins.

We have NEVER said at ANY stage that we would recruit cousins if we got an extra pick. Others are saying it.

I trust the club a hell of a lot more than I trust Ben Cousins. If he comes over, great, if not nothing changes and we forge ahead with the talent we have.
 
best thing for the RFC would be for Essendon to draft Cousins before we get to our Pick 6.

People ringing in threatening to rip up memberships could well be supporters of other clubs trolling away

Agree with the title of this thread.
We should have picked up Cuz with one of our late picks in the Nat draft.
If we get him tomorrow good, if we dont "Such is Life" and we move on.

PS l already threw my membership away and now awaiting for my new 2009 to arrive in January.. ;D

agree, who knows if cousins even would want to play for the black and red essendscum.
 
I think the AFL League are working for the Media (well actually given the size of the TV rights I know they are working for the media).

Their decision maximises the media storm for the next 24 hours+. Will RFC pick up Cousins, will they go back on their word etc etc. This has heightened the drama by taking away the "easy" option.

Its great stuff from a media perspective and just the best result to generate new stories.

I would think Ben would be happy at aged 30 to get to any club - especially so that his documentary can have a bigger impact when it comes to selling it to the hungry commercial stations. Personally, I think all this might have more riding on it than just playing football - hence a willingness to play for minimums.
 
ha ha... how good would it be if the 5pm press conference would be about us announcing a new major sponosor?! then asking ben who?

ok valid point that , but gee whiz how ironic would that be , cousins talks to sheedy whom now a richmond perswon again, sheedy pushes it hard to richmond to get cousins and take a risk on him etc etc.
sheedys input etc more or less gives the ok accross public opinion etc etc for cousins to be given another chance.

Come draft day essndscum pick him up with having to do jack shizen!

or scenario 2 come draft day cousins doesent get picked up again ! honestly that would haveto shatter the guy after all thats gone on in the last week.
 
come 5.00pm the club will hold a press confernce.
i hope that they dont announce who they intend to draft, this way keeps the other clubs guessing. i hope that we do draft COUSINS.
if sheedy, newman and wallace plead their case to the board,and if the board dose take it on board benny could be a tiger.
i still belive that a lot of work has gone into this, and has been planned since the early part of this year around the June mark.

they played the Polak case to do it the right way , the afl done what they thought was the right decisions.
hopefully draft day it gose our way and we get cousins.gourdis can be collected in the rookie draft
 
im not relaxed im very worried, a lot of angry tiger supporters out there today.....

i was hoping we would go for a younger player with pick 6, but now due to these circumstances i think we might have to reverse and get cousins. Richmond could lose a lot of members.

this will be a great PR move and will help get a sponsor, will help crowds, help $, help our performance.

i think we have to get cousins or the tigers wil be again the laughing stock......its about pride now and the members. Angry members ring up SEN with there membership numbers.....
