Re: Excuse me while I throw up
Can someone at least acknowledge that the team we played last night is actually a very good, running combination who will trouble a lot of teams? I doubt they will beat too many of them by 115 points but they are in another class to our group at the moment.
They have a large group of 22-26 year-olds and have recruited for leg-speed over several seasons. We have virtually nada in this age group and have recruited for leg-speed for 18 months!
The dilemma at selection for our club is one which needs to be managed carefully. Whilst youngsters like Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Thursfield, Jackson, Hartigan, JON, McGuane and others have the physical attributes that the coach is looking for, they as yet do not have the presence, the strength or the experience to match it with AFL standard teams. The players who have the strength and experience like Gaspar, Kellaway, Krakouer, Tivendale,Chaffey and others don't have the speed and mobility or even the raw ability to go with it.
Over time, the kids will grow into their roles and will be managed into the team. We have a promising group of 18-20 year olds who will be fed into the senior team over the next 18 months. Our team will be quite different in 2007-8. The more losses like last night, the quicker the changes will come.
I was as disappointed as anyone else last night- that was a terrible performance. Just remember that the people who built that other team last night are in charge of ours now- and they were criticised for a very long time for the faith thay they showed in players like Eagleton, McMahon, Skipper, Hargrave and Patrick Bowden. it takes time, boys and girls.
