we had a family weekend down here on the Mornington Peninsula for our local Supporters Group. Trent Knobel, Chris Newman, Kelvin Moore, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls & Angus Graham came down for an overnight stay Friday Night (8th Dec '06). Can I start off by saying we couldn't have asked for a nicer, more accomodating bunch of blokes. Very impressive in the way they handled themselves, annoying kids and annoying adults asking the same inane questions over and over. We started off with a clinic at Moorooduc Primary School. The club donated pencil cases with other stationary to each and every kid in the school. The Supporters Group donated 2 signature footies for the school to use as they wish. Trent Knobel was simply sensational in the way he took control of question time with the kids. (obvious he was the only dad). Friday night was a chance for some Supporter Group members to have a beer and barbie with the boys. (the players had chicken salads and water). The following day was Family Day and over 70 supporters turned up (expected 100). 37 degrees but the boys got on with the job and every supporter was over the moon with the players attitude and gentleman like behaviour. I will rave on about these guys forever to anyone who will listen. They were simply fantatstic.

Great report Darren - glad to see the boys so accomodating especially when being such a trying weekend in the heat but after all they are professional. Sounds like the young ones got a buzz out of it which is what we and the club want to see. Good stuff!!

Thanks for the report Darren and congratulations on the work you've put in to get the group up and running. :clap

Good to hear good things about the boys. Hopefully Knobel can take charge of something else this season and get a game.

I know it's a week later but for those interested, JON still needs alot of sessions in the gym. His top half his improving but at the risk of sounding like, but not meaning to be racist, his legs are typically skinny. The other boys looked simply sensational. My god, Trent Knobel & Angus Fraser are huge. Kelvin Moore looks great and showed concern with a skin fold after a having a snag from the barbie. Chris Newman looked fighting fit but I have to admit, whilst having a little kick to kick with a young fella one time, he had to turn quickly to chase the footy and gave a little hop and face grimace. Selfishly I thought to myself at the time "oh for god sakes don't re break your leg here" He insisted during Q & A that he'll play NAB cup and was aiming for a Round 1 comeback in the ones.
We've all read the stories about how hard they've been at it on the track. In my opinion, their body shapes sure did indicate they have been working their butts off. Bring on 2007 I say.

Well done Darren.

And it's great to hear that the former English fast bowler is training with us.

I remember the last trip out here the poms had, we gave Big Gus an absolute mouthful of garbage over the fence cause he wouldn't sign any autographs. We lost the test that day, cause Australia tried to win it that night so they wouldn't have to come back the next day. Gus had the last laugh I guess, but he always stuck in my mind as ungrateful pr!ck.

Glad our Angus is nothing like that. From when we met him last year, he was real down to earth, and was good to be around. I'm happy he'll sign some autographs for the kids too. Hope he makes it, be a good story.
