Thought I start a new topic to find out what all fellow ferals listen too?

My Favourite artist - Bruce Hornsby( Inspired me to keep playing the piano). ;D

Worst Artist- Any artist that doesn't write their music to gain commercial success ie( Holly Valance, and Boy bands, etc) >:(

Where has the real music gone........... :'(

CT, Have you read the list of favourites thread on the Rumours, Whispers and General board.
Some people have listed music they like there, though this is a great thread devoted to music.

I love reading what people listen to, and it's great when they give a bit of a description too. I often keep a little list and check them out when I go to Gaslight.

I love the 10 deserted island cd lists where people say what they'd take and why.

Anyway my alltime favourites, (can't split them cos it depends on mood and time of day etc)

Grateful dead, Pink Floyd, Eagles, New Riders of The Purple Sage, Byrds, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Lou Reed, Jerry Jeff Walker, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Buffet, Andrew Pendlebury, Leonard Cohen, Ry Cooder......ok I'll shut up, ha.....but the list goes on, and on and......

I don't like much get rich quick commercial music, and I hate M&M kind of rappy stuff too.....And I hate listening to a favourite song done as a crap cover version.

A kiwi guy I chatted to a couple of times on icq sent me a dozen cd's he burned for me. It was great to hear some new stuff.
Not sure on the ethical or legal side of that, but it is great to hear things you'd probably never buy anyway simply cos you'd never heard of them.

i cant go thru the day without listening to the best rock band this country has produced AC/DC.also i like to listen to cold chisel, midnight oil and metallica.
and of coarse the main one listening to the tiger club song on gf day 2003 ;D

I can't stand so-called artists who rip off riffs or sections of songs etc like Selwyn using Hall & Oates "Rich Girl", Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" from Queen's "Under Pressure" for example. Some actually remakes are okay but don't take parts of songs and pretend their your own.

Holly Valance - what a joke. They say she mimed at the Arias. Apart from Kylie and Natalie Imbruglia, all those dolly birds from the soaps should stick to acting (if you can call it that)

'(
Although i've played guitar for many a year its was
Bruce Cockburn that captured my imagination and influenced me to be a more accomplished and polished player of the style i love....... Fingerstyle.

Fav: Torie Amos - saw her live a few years back. What a tortured talented soul. For on stage cool, her and Dave Gahar (sic) from Depeche Mode and light years ahead of everyone

Least: Darren Hayes from Savage Garden - wanker - sings of love and devotion, and happily dumps his wife and pisses off to San Fransisco to be with his new friends ??? and find some inspiration. The twit forgot that he was the singer in Savage Garden, the guy who played guitar was the songwriting machine.

bands I love fluctuate.  At the moment I am listening to a lot of Taxiride and Sophie Ellis Bexter

Yeah I like Taxiride a lot too.  Does Tim Wild follow Richmond?  At the end credits on the back of Garage Mahal, where they thank everyone he mentions the Mighty Tigers????

Faves:

Like most it changes all the times and depends how I feel. In general I'm finding I'm listening to a lot of current "punk" bands and my favorites are Drop Kick Murphies, Strung out and face to face. I've also got Papa Roach on high rotation.

Dont like:

Any R&B/Hip hop stuff - ie Nelly, guy with band aid on face, etc etc.

Faves....
Ben Harper(he is very funky) Pearl Jam (get better with age) The Cure (love most of their early stuff) Counting Crows(tickets for 2nd concert on sale tomorrow) U2 (mainly earlier stuff also) REM (always liked them) Alex Lloyd (sis bought the cd its really good) The Chilli Peppers (no explanation required) John Butler trio (good aussie slide with a hippie slant) and many others getting into the latest Foo Fighters album but havent liked much of their stuff previously, dub reggae, acoustic just about anything, Ravi Shankar does some funky stuff with the sittah and i like the sound of the mandolin also, and on the odd occasion some classical is good.

Least Faves
Any song that doesnt sound like anyone has picked up a single instrument! RnB is someones revenge for a crime I didnt commit :(! NOT HAPPY, rap and manufactured pop and doof doof and may aswell throw in most country music also.
Not a huge fan of Jazz either but live it can be great.

My Fav as well, Tori is touring and will be in Melbourne on the 23rd May! Yay! I have booked my tickets!!

I love the way she plays the piano!

Didn't realise this thread was on the footy board! Just did a search...

Faves..the man with the crown Jammmmes Brownnn & Miles Davis  as I play trumpet and hes the man when it comes to Trumpet players :)
Like Funk Soul Neosoul , Modern Jazz and some Urban Gospel  :D
Dont like country music  much  >:
Croughing did you check out George Clinton & the P funk alstars last Friday at the QBH it was a Fantastic night (and he did Atomic Dog like your Avatar)

Favourite: Beck. He has just released a new album Guerro which is Odelay Part 2 with a bit more polish and a lot more insight. I got the Deluxe version with a 52 page booklet of art & design + a bonus dvd - sensational.
Beck's albums just grow and evolve. He is definitely one of a kind and ahead of his time.

Worst: Take your pick out of todays non-songwriting and non-instrument playing halfwits. In fact throw 95% of the current 'stars' going around into a hat and pull out a name.
What happened to well written music people?

P.S: Tori Amos is the best female artist going around. The thinking man's musician. Refined and genuinely talented.

I am a huge fan of Picasso - When I was in Vietnam I had a copy made of 'Les demoiselles D'Avignon" which now hangs proudly on my wall. Another favourite is Edward Hopper, who is often (but mistakenly) said to paint in the American Realist style. I also like the work of a Melbourne artist called Michael Laity.

I thought this was an art thread too ace.
For the record:
Favourite painter - Jasper Johns.
Favourite Photographer - Lee Friedelander closely followed by Weegee.
Favourite Australian artist: Mike Parr (his performance when he hacked his forearm off with a clever at the National Gallery still raises the hairs on my neck)
Honourable mentions to Francis Bacon and Turner.
Favourite Sculpture: Claes Oldenburg

P.S: I have 1.49 for you - go and get a six-pack then b-b-bray the b-b-bairns!!! ;D

Am also a big fan of Jasper Johns and Francis Bacon. I have been trying to give up the Ace, really I have.
