It's taken many years but Joel Bowden is back in the midfield where he will help the team the most. He can go forward and kick goals, also his experience something we lack to an extreme degree on the ball.

He did play B&F football at CHB but he isnt a CHB, he was getting the cheap turnover downback.

He plays better out on the wing or on the ball to drive inside 50.

Agreed along with Newman who uses the pill well & is strong over the ball we need to rotate our better guys through there Bowden Newman Deledio Foley King Edwards Brown Conners etc etc I think if we do that Johnson & Tuck will become better players also!!

I reckon Joel should be playing with the same license as Chad Cornes.

Both are similar, both have played their best down back, both can take a reasonable mark, and both can play forward and kick goals.

The only difference is, Chad has that license and freedom to go down forward, whereas Joel seems restricted to the back-half of the ground.

Maybe it's time Wallace gave him the license to roam for a few games and see what happens?

Bugger....thought he was going to Coburg!

was in sydney for the game sat night, and was very happy with the positioning of Joel. Thought he had the room to move and play to his potential. Instead of being pigeon holed as the full back.
keep him this way!

chad cornes is as hard and fit as ever while joel has been downing too many wines for mine and looks plump

wallace will give him the license once he actually gets himself right and has a good pre season instead of coasting along as always

happy with Livs idea.....I hate it when I agree with him :cutelaugh

Don't worry Tiger74, found myself nodding in agreement and then had to re-read becuase it was Liverpuddle again :o Not quite joined at the hip yet, but warming to the SOB as well. But seriously, Joel in a license role is playing our best for the best. Joel is the real leader of the team and this role would only confirm it all the more.

Agree. Not only will he help the team but he will help the development of our younger on-ballers. Newman also. Their overall smarts will assist the development of the kids by getting them into the action more often. If we had a decent midfield Bowdens best position would be rebounding off a back flank, but the reality is we don't. We need our best players in the middle (Bowden, Brown, Newman) so the kids can learn and develop within a cohesive on-ball brigade who know how to find one another.

Tuck and Johnson, for all their efforts, just don't have the nous and awareness to link up with the kids in a manner that will assist their development. If anything they put their teamates under unnecessary pressure and for a kid the last thing you need is to be buried into the ground after being delivered a hospital pass.

Terry should change things up. Push Bowden and Newman into the middle full time. Shift Tuck to the forward line (he can take a good mark and his sky high kicks are actually accurate for goal). Push Pettifer to a back flank.

We need Edwards, Connors, Deledio, and Foley developing alongside the classiest and smartest players we have.

Agree, from memory (which I'm trying to wipe out) I believe Pettifer played some pretty football from half back in 2004. Tuck would be a good substitute in the forward line. The only question mark would be around pace in the midfield as Bowden, Brown and Newman aren't overly quick. Perhaps if Deledio and some of the younger guys improve this can be overcome.

The one reason why Joel and Newman have been put down back is based on the fact that Wallace wants his drive from half back, but we go missng in the middle.

On the Chad Cornes subject, he is probably the best player in the league at the moment. He started as a half back and now he just about does it all, in an ideal world Joel would be able to that, but realistically, I dont think he is as good as Chad Cornes.

But, Newman, Bowden and Deledio are best played on the ball, Wallace doesnt like playing them there all the time.

yep.

Certainly time to give him a change of scenery, well overdue in fact.
Seems to me Joel hasn't been enjoying his football too much of late. Who could blame him?

He'll have to be given free licence though. No sense in asking him to man anyone up.
