Firing up the tank

Well Mrs Yinnar has just booked airline tickets for us to go to Perth on August 27, return 29th. I'd hate to turn up to the game against West Coast thinking that it's a game we're trying to lose.

Incidentally, by getting to this game I will re-achieve a personal record in the AFL that I last achieved as a 12 year old in the VFL: Attended Tiger games at every regularly used ground in the league.

Yeah same, i'm hoping to see Richo's last game of 2009 before he rips into another pre season and flies on through 2010

hmm give me the reigns let me finish bottom 2 with pps for the next 3 drafts and i would not hesitate to guarantee a sustained finals period. a period where we will be in the mix for a flag over a 5 yr period if not longer.

but to do this i would want to strip the entire footy dept back to scratch first. and i would insist after thats happened we clean out the playing list.

i would insist we target successful people who have been there done it in the footy sense. would realy like the club to just go get pelchen do what it takes pay what he wants, would like to poach two from geelong cook and balme. wouild go out of my way to find the best possible recruiters out of wa sa and then have them set up large and well resourced networks totally aimed at well rounded players.

recruiting list management development get em right and you are half way there, no your most of the way there.if we dont have these areas right we may as well do nothing at all and slowly die an agonising death. pointless targeting priority picks if you are not confidant of these three areas of your club.
when you know you have the right people, go down build from the bottom over 3 yrs, you just know in those three yrs you will have aquired all the quality players you will need . you know that long term you will have drafted 15 or so long termers. 3 drafts turnover of 30 odd including rookies find 15 minimum thats a paltry 50 percent. find 20 players and thats a very respectable two thirds. no reason not to expect two thirds with so many high picks coming in and good people doing their job.

add those 20odd players to deledio cotchin collins vickery rance connors foley post etc and your on the way. theres no rocket science to it. get the right people in those critical areas then give them really early picks to work with or first crak at the best talent in the country.stay patient and stick to the processes you set out and stick to your minimum requirement recruiting criteria.

any way thats a broad outline of what needs to be done if done properly a period of success would be guaranteed.

Claw I agree with you, but you better find a ton of money because check out the staffing difference between the Tiges and Adelaide (who I think have the Development/Recruiting side working the best - West Coast too but they have tanked where Adelaide just developed everybody they get)

Better find that winning $30 million super draw tatts ticket mate. :)

long list that smoking gun.

20 in directly involved in recruiting alone. or being paid. just goes to show the importance they place in that area almost half of their massive footy dept involved in the life blood of their club. just backs up what ive been saying.

ive often said and for a long while make sure you have the people and are well resourced in recruiting list management development to the detriment of all else if need be. at richmond these areas have continually been the poor citizen.

The draft is going to be pretty ordinary anyways.

wouldnt' say this draft is pretty ordinary. certainly this draft doesn't have depth of other drafts due to 4 months being taken from the draft dates. however, the top end of the draft is strong as ever, with some elite players there. hence it's even more important to tank so we get one of these plus 2 more in the top 20 by winnign less than 5 games

It's hard to disagree with any of this but sheesh I'm sick of the longsuffering patience required of Tiger supporters. I'm just about out of the stuff. Apparently we need to blow off another 3-4 seasons and then perhaps (according to some) it will be another 5 or 6 before the 'window' opens. :-\

I think I'd like to do a Rip Van-Winkle :sleeping. Someone please wake me when we finally get there. :old Thanks in advance.

i think we need an exhaustive selection process to find the best.
is that danielle? maybe

Hehe.

btw, nice spot, GPB, on Adelaide's missing chaplain.

Christ, we've got God on our side and we're still woeful!

in the west today money expenditure of each clubs footy dept.including players coaches and footy dept.
sydney topped the list with 16.9 mil.
we came 12th with 13.4 mil. adelaide spent just 14.1mil. seems to me the crows are getting an awful lot for their dollar compared to us. only conclusion i can come to is we must have a lot of fat cats raking the cream from the top.

It is much much cheaper to live in SA Claw. They'd have to pay their staff comparatively less than Melbourne to have the same lifestyle.

Sydney would have the highest because of their increased cost of living over melbourne.

yeah, but that would be offset by needing to pay people a lot more moeny to get them to live in Adelaide in the first place.

heheheh I like the cheap dig at Adelaide. Hell, I like any dig at Adelaide.

But realistically, a lot of them are probably native to SA. They very rarely like to venture out of their own rabbit warren. The ones that aren't probably spend most of the time on the road on "expenses" and in hotels watching footy games.

Agreed - the thing to do now is get games into the kids. By the time 2012 comes around we want to have a young team on the park that will have a suitable level of experience to consistently make finals. Lets attempt to get an average of 15 games per season into these players that have made irregular visits to the first or are yet to get a game: JON, Hughes, Connors, Hislop, Putt, Graham, Browne, Vickery, Post, Gilligan, Nahas, Polo, Rance, Collins, Gourdis and Post. Forget about the oldies, Macca, Schulz, King, Polak and Thomson. Trade Raines, Edwards and Thursty to the GC for picks – we know what they can do – they’ll improve a only little on what they have already achieved and they will grow along with the new young team to form the basis of useful unit.

Some may drop off and never make it – I’m betting the likes of Hughes, Gourdis and Graham fall away. But combine the remainders with the now reasonably experienced core: Lids, Axel, Bling, Tuck, Newy, Patto, McG, Moore, Jack, White, Jackson, Petts, Cogs and Morton and we might have a reasonably talented and experienced team.
