Was meant to go to the Hawthorn game, but refolding my socks seemed more interesting than another capitulation... I do love the Tiges ... but TWENTY FIVE plus years of rubbish (apart from ONE finals appearance) is hard to cope with .. I left Aus to live overseas in 1988, they were crap when I left, came back to support them again in 1997, they were still crap, and ten yrs on, again, its no better (or worse) .. All I can say is Thank God for my 10yrs away (and relief). I just dont care anymore ..

I am no coach/expert/tactician and dont claim to have any answers (they dont pay me too) .. but going to games and losing week after week after week after week is not something I need to keep going back too. In fact, what sense is there in going.

I luv the tiges .. and will be paid up again next year .. and maybe even go to a game or two .. but there is something inherently wrong with the internal workings of the club... Are the senior players just happy to be running there pubs/bars/restaurants and footy is just something that they have to turn up to so they can continue their nice lifestyle?

We have picked up some talented players, only to see them NOT blossom as players as other clubs have with their juniors. JON, pfft, Bling.. zip .. add to that, players that have left Punt Rd and lifted their game (Roden) .. what is it about the Tiges!!

/rant ...

I hear Ya "66"...................I too left in '88 and maybe should be thankful for that. It's only been in recent times that I've been able to keep up with all the news on my Beloved Tiges (Internet finally) and become more aware of what's going in.
Now 3 years or so later , I'm thinking I may have been better off staying away from the Internet because it sure is depressing to see what lowly depths the Club now finds itself in.

I just can't get my head around how we can have only played finals TWICE in 25 years. What are we doing wrong? Surely amongst all the players, coaches, assistants and Board members we've had in that time, something should've provided some success. How can we have gone from the genuine powerhouse through the late 60's, early 70's and early 80's, to the constant losers that we are. Our list must have changed 500 times throughout that period and I simply don't understand why we're still so poor. I used to think Fitzroy and St Kilda were the jokes of the league. One moved north and the other has at least provided some hope. I find myself being embarrassed when I tell people I'm a Richmond supporter.

For the first time in a long time, I'm questioning the value of my membership. I just don't see where we are going to improve.

Anyone for another list rebuild...?

Freeze , the ONLY way to improve is by rebuilding the Playing List , no If's and or But's about it.
The down side of Today's Modern Game compared to 25 Years ago and beyond is that it's no longer about going out and finding a few talented players in the Bush or Interstate Comp. and getting them to come along for a Run in Feb. , those were the Good Ol' day's when you'd get excited to see what the New Boy's had to offer.
Now with the Draft and Full-Time Recruiters etc , no stone is left unturned and I fear , alot of Today's talent is Highly Overated before they get out of Juniour Level. Plus there's only so many that can be signed per Year which leaves Clubs with Weak List's in a whole heap of strife. By the time these Picks are blooded into the system and contributing on a consistent basis , 4 - 5 years have passed , so if you have a "DUD" draft , it could take years to recover from , which is exactly where we find ourselves at the moment.

No Quick Fix anymore I'm afraid , which is going to mean at least 3 more years to reach middle -of - road status ( and that's IF the next 2 years Draft Picks are capable of playing constently in the One's) and 6 or 7 before we could realistically be competing for a Flag.

Dig in for a while longer yet Mate , I don't think we've even "Bottomed Out" yet.
