Watched Foley in the Big V jumper, made the RFC and the Vics proud of the way he cut the centre up. Reminded me of the Flea when he got around in both jumpers... [Apologies to Simmo and Richo - this is an Axel thread, but we was proud of you too!] :clap

Had the radio on sen at work on monday,

There was alot of talk about the Sat night game,

And his name was mentioned frequently when talk centred around who played well.

His profile in the game is growing.

Will get Ling this week hoping he can back up the Big V game!!
Me too. I wonder if Axel can use his speed to give the ugliest man in football the run around. Ling has a lot of size on Foley.

ahhh this thread brings back so many great memories of Flea.

i wouldnt be ashamed to admit i've often thought the same analogy when watching Axel so for those too young to have not seen the Flea dont despair cause he has many similar traits :clap

quick off the mark, hard in and under, creative, quick, tough and most of all, never lies down!

you know that saying "when the goinng gets tough, the tough get tougher"

thats pretty much what the Flea was and Foley shows all the right signs of becoming that one day too :clap

Now all we need to do is draft a kid called Harold Faltemeyer :hihi

The Flea was more damaging with his hands than Foley. Though I think Foley will only get better as career develops.

I reckon he'll end up better than Flea at the end of his career.
You reckon?
I mean we have had some crap sides that Axel has had to put up with but nowhere as near as what the Flea had to put up with.Yet the Flea was acknowledged as the best rover in the comp.
Flea had a bit more football nous.
Nothing wrong with coming 2nd to Flea mind you :)

Well done to Foley and all that he has achieved thus far.
From the time I saw him running round for the Geelong Falcons back in 2003, I thought he MIGHT be this good.

For me, the metaphor of "The Flea" is an interesting one.

It should be noted that when the Tigers were a power, The Flea had Rowlings, Wiley & Bartlett to assist.
It was when "The Flea" had to do it almost on his own that the Tigers fell down the ladder.

My feeling, for a very long time, is that one genuine rover is NOT enough, if we are to become a contender.
We do need to be looking (for) more genuine rovers with whom Foley can share rotations.

Even the great Kevin Bartlett, at his roving peak, still had Billy Brown, Graeme Bond, Daryl Cumming & Noel Carter to share duties with.

One Foley is NOT enough!

i agree with you that Foley is no Flea, I absolutely adored the Flea (had his number on my jumper) but i must say i can see more similarities than differences with Flea/Foley i mean they even have the same first letter :hihi (yeah i know its weightman)

if he becomes anything like similar to the Flea he's a winner :clap

I dunno he looked pretty damaging with his hands for the Vics in that 2nd half as he set up countless plays. :D

I also was a massive fan of Dale's work, massive. He was a little champ but Axe is an absolute gun in his own right.
Also different eras but he's a damn sight quicker than Weightman ever was.

The fact that he even gets mentioned in the same breath as Flea just shows how good this guy is.
Fantastic to think that he's probably still got 10 odd seasons ahead of him with us.
A Brownlow medal & hopefully a premiership one might be around his neck one day.

Foley is an elite midfielder who has answered my footy-prayers. However, on top of all his other attributes, flea was seriously tough and dirty and regularly kicked a bag of goals in big games (especially for Victoria). Still, I am happy to hope that Foley will give as good servce to RFC as Flea did. Like Phantom said, hes gonna need help. Insert Cotchin?????
