"Footballers Wanted"?

Ok, this one really is out of left field.

A couple of people came up to me at work yesterday and knowing that I'm a Richmond supporter they told me there was a sign up at or near Richmond station saying something along the lines of "Richmond Football Club – Footballers Wanted". Neither of them knows much about AFL football (actually they know nothing), so I told them they must be mistaken and that this was not how AFL clubs went about finding young talent (although it would go a long way towards explaining some of our recruiting decisions over the past couple of decades).

They assured me that even though they did find it a bit strange the sign really was there, so I was left with three options. Either the sign did exist and they read it incorrectly (in which case they need to go to OPSM and/or learn how to read), the sign didn’t exist and they were lying (probably the most likely explanation, in which case I’ll *smile* slap both of them), or the sign did exist and that really is what it said (in which case it was obviously someone taking the *smile*). Can anyone shed any light on this?

I got two possible explanations for you Jimmy.

1) There is, or may be a website called Footballerswanted.com where teams from all over the globe advertise for coaches and players, players can advertise themselves, etc etc.
I have visited a site like that before but am not sure if that was the web page. If not, it was similar.

Explanation 2) Your friends may have stumbled across a sign asking for players for a team called Richmond Centrals 'The Snakes' who play in the D4 amatuers at Kevin Bartlett oval as a home base.
I stumbled onto their website last week and they are advertising for players on there.
Gave it some thought, but the reason I gave away footy in the first place is because I didn't like training. ;D

Here check it out... seems the most likely explanation.

This is correct. I went to the Mountain Goats gig at the Corner Hotel tonight and saw the sign. It had Richmond Centrals written on it.

Maybe that sign appeared after round 1 :hihi

This sign is a recruitment initiative of the Richmond Central AFC.

I happen to be the secretary of said football club.

Send me a PM if you want to have a kick J-12. :thumbsup

That goes for you too TD, and anyone else interested.

Bonus is you get to play in a black jumper with a yellow sash, front and back. :grin

Tigerdog I hear you on the training, adn with Richmond playing a lot of Saturday games this year I have no more interest in playing footy. I always say one last year (havent palyed in about 9 years) jsut dont seem to have the wil lto train after training for cricket all summer.

sounds to me gm has come out with a new recruiting strategy. ah well i suppose he can do no worse than he has.

Surely someone else must be willing to put their head over the ball or back into a pack with audible footsteps approaching? ??? ;D

The only other senior football club left in Richmond, and you get to play at the picturesque Kevin Bartlett Reserve. :spin

Bringing this back up to the top.

RICHMOND CENTRAL AFC

Anyone who wants to get a kick in the yellow and black this year, for the only other senior club in Richmond, please send me a PM.

Friendly bunch of blokes and the club is moving onwards and upwards both on and off the field. :thumbsup
