Not tiger specific but I got to say I'm generally disappointed with the quality of footy analysis we get particularly on the radio (although tv as well).

Having said that I've got to give some plaudits to Liam Pickerting and Mark Stevenson (HUN) on SEN. :clap Their run down this morning on the teams was top class and left me wanting to hear more from them - unlike wanting to turn off.

My current favourite analysts (not commentators):

Pickering, Stevenson, Healy, Carey, Caro

My hall of shame is much bigger but I'll name just a few;

Mark Robertson (incoherant ramblings of a madman), Patrick Smith (controversy for the sake of it), David Schwartz ( I could of cried when I saw he got the plum job for Sevens coverage), Sheahan (seems to know very few facts for someone who supposed to be the chief footy journo)

PS Brereton is unfortunately an enigma to analysis (verbose and overcomplicating despite being knowlegable)

The fact someone like Schwarz.....who is an an absolute dumbo, suffers from foot in mouth disease and struggles generally to string two sentences together.....is an indication of the drop off in broadcast standards that we're gonna get with Channel 7.

Having said that, we put up with Brereton for years on Channel 9, so maybe we've just got to come to expect that every footy station has its obligatory dumbo boofhead.

This is what happens when you spread the talent (or lack of) pool too far. Any time you have too many teams in any type of arena, the gap between the good and nowhere near it becomes greater.

Imagine how much better the AFL would be if it were a team or two lighter, the dud players drop off, and you get a better comp from more quality players spread across the remaining teams. Conversely, if the A League adds another team or two, it could stuff that comp, it is just right atm.

When it was just 7 doing the footy, and the few radio stations, you only got the odd dropkick eg D. Hawkins, Dipper... but now with it being on virtually every station on both radio and television, you're stuffed.

There just isn't enough talent out there, and the games toward the end of the year when both have nothing to play for will have these 'leftovers' covering them, and that is what the mute button was invented for!

How can Michael Christian still be a football commentator ????

Worst of the lot.

I've got a little gutfeel that the football analysis in The Age is going to improve dramatically this year. ;)

'Hutchy' is a dead set shocker. Hard to find worse than him!

Oh, did someone say, 'Schwarz?'

Yeah, he is hopeless. comes across as a real boofhead, monosyllabic moron.

I hope that means more articles and news from Caro.

Caro: i wish she would concentrate on the real footy news. ie the games and the players.

She spends far too much time on the backroom stuff. Makes a story out of nothing and as such, is often meaningless.

Like that story about Nth last week re the director who wanted to take legal action against Laidley, but didnt.

and it happened LAST YEAR.

So essentially the story was about something that didnt happen last year.

yawn!

How much are they paying you?

Everyone else, sell your Fairfax shares! :cutelaugh

i like to ox, he's very good value on SEN and doesn't hold back (refer to what he thinks about neale daniher). but i'm not sure how he'll go as an expert comments man on ch 7. it's not as if he has done it before. it will take him a while to get into the role.

Chrisso,Hutchy & the Ox irritate the sh!t out of me.How someone hasn't given Hutchy the old Liverpool kiss yet has me dumbfounded!

he he..excellent summary of that story. That's pretty much what I said to Mrs Hanno when I was reading the story.

The talent pool is certainly shallow enough for toddlers to wade in. I hope the Lions sack Leigh Matthews, he's excellent. I also like Robert Walls on occasion (yes, yes, I'm preparing for the barrage), and Carey is the star performer of the newer crop. Reckon Jim Hird will be good and I hope to hear Michael Voss' thoughts more regularly, too.
