Yeah it's tradition and a bit of fun. I'm not sure if tropical tiger started it here of if it was back in the Roarpower days but it's certainly been on PRE from the first season we were around.

I just checked the Footytips list and 11 members were showing what I assume were their real names instead of nicknames.

I've sent them all an e-mail advising them and suggesting they login to Footytips to change the name in their profile if they want a nickname used.

I don't think there's any need at all to add your real name where it asks for it unless you want to. I just put rosy in christian name and . in surname because there have been problems in the past with it showing the real name instead of the nick.
