Trade week this year seems to have gone backwards with clubs trying to screw each other with their dealings. I know most of you will say that it happens every year but this year is different.

Hawks not accepting pick 13 for Jon Hay and demanding TWO first rounders. WTF, pick 13 was a great deal for a 26 year old broken down FB who can't kick. Hawks are being too greedy and deserve to get nothing.

Dons thinking Ted Richards is worth a first round pick when they don't see fit to persist with him after four years. By God, Sheedy prefers Henneman to this guy and now he's first round quality.

Ditto Richard Cole and Daniel Motlop. Worth a top ten pick. Not in my mind.

And as for Fev, if pick #8 isn't good enough for the Blues then stuff em. As much as I think he might be good for us I'm not convinced and would not want to give away Sarge, Patto or Cogs for him. As for Razor, well I'd like him to stay because we need all the tall timber we can get right now. Basically I don't think we're in a position to pay a hefty price for Fev because we need pretty much everything we've got ATM both quality and structurally wise. Maybe as well as pick #8 I'd give them Krak or one of our mid range runners such as Tivva or Harts. Nothing more.

But really, I think we should develop our own and forget about these ridiculous trades, especially seeing that 25 of us have a boardroom meeting with GM about the draft. What's the use of the meeting if we have stuff all picks??? Oh God, I'm rambling a bit now but you all know what I mean. Remember how we traded for Staff and lost out on James Kelly??? That is what I mean.

I don't think it's any different to any other trade week.

Mon - Wed a lot of hot air and crap being spoken.
Thu - Fri everyone panics about getting *something* done to "improve" their lists that they actually start talking common sense.

Should be cut to 3 days.

Make it bloody 2 days and watch all clubs do serious business from the start - none of this 5 day hogwash!!!

Maybe it is and maybe it isn't but for some reason I have a bad feeling about this current trade week, that's all. I'd be much more comfortable with keeping our picks for the next two years than recycling.

Agree that two or three days would be enough. This whole week of trading is indeed rubbish. Totally agree.

lets not be too critical of teams expecting 1st rounders for average players. we set the precedent and got 2 1st rounders for a donut

Yeah it's true Lebo but Otto's much better than Ted Richards, Richard Cole, Daniel Motlop and Jon Hay. Potentially anyway. Lets not forget that players of his size who can play ruck and go forward are worth their weight in gold. Hence Nathan Thompson also being worth two first rounders. None of the players above are capable of that nor could they have as big an impact on their sides fortunes when fully fit and playing at or near their best.

ahh the memories of Luna Park.....

With all these clubs talking tough and demanding first round picks all over the place wouldn't it be funny if the uncontracted players just told the clubs to get stuffed, put a price on their heads and went into the draft.
Poor old Cartoon, Scumwood and the Bummers would all be frantically running around trying to decide wether to redraft their own duds so no one else could get them for nothing or trying to avoid using an early pick on someone else's dud.

Keep  a sense of perspective there Tarababah...

I recall the trade period was shorter once.  Needed to be a week to get the deals done apparently.  Each team has to consult 15 others (and quaff some Chardy) on a daily basis.  What, perhaps 30mins with each club on a daily basis?

The art of negotiation.  This always starts wide apart at the parties respective positions.  Think real estate if you like.   This is football "real estate."  I have great respect for the parties that reach a deal early in the week - like the Watts/StKilda deal today.  Pragmatism was reached early and the deal wasn't really complicated and wasn't allowed to become complicated.  Teams have to capacity to do only a few trades in reality, so the permutations have to be worked through to not overlook a possibility, or a corridor :hihi

It's only a week, and just one week out from the Granny!  Chill - those in control will do what they believe is best (even if it includes Fevola :-X >:()

Two hours and wire them all for sound with cameras in the wall. Now that would be reality TV I would watch.
