Carlton beat us by 83 points
Western Bulldogs beat us by 47 points
Carlton beat Western Bulldogs by 43 points

Form line suggests 83 - 47 = 36 that Carlton should have beaten the Western Bullldogs by 6 goals - they beat them by 7 goals
Therefore that form line looks pretty close to the mark. If so then

Carlton beat us by 83 points
Swans beat Carlton by 17 Points

That could mean we are in for a 100 point thrashing this weekend.

If only it was so easy we would all make a fortune out of the TAB.

I went to the Swans v Carlton game at the SCG (holidaying on Sydney's northern beaches at the time) and Carlton should have been 5 or 6 goals up at quarter time but for inaccurate kicking. The Swans then shut down Carlton's in and under mid-fielders thus choking the ball to Judd, Murphy and Stevens and then out muscled the Carlton players to win a tough hard inside (the packs) style of game.

We need muscle this weekend - Coghlan, Tuck, Hislop, Thompson in the guts feeding Foley, Delidio and White. Jackson on Kirk to just negate - nothing more. We could surprise the Swans in the mid-field and I am sure our backline can get on top of the out of form Swans forward line - O'Keefe especially. Can our forwards kick a winning score against a tight pack playing defence on the small SCG is the question?

As Sydney are not renowned for their big winning margins I feel the form line of 100 points is not realistic - but an 8 to 10 goal win in their favour is possible if we do not muscle up inside the packs...........

Who would you play in the midfield to combat the Sydney mauling pack style of play?

Don't forget to factor in the expect the unexpected Richmond phenomenon Remote. Your figures add up to a comfortable Richmond win.

It's panning out to be an interesting season with any, read most, teams capable of causing upsets. Hopefully it's our turn this week.

Honestly, I still think our forward line leaves a lot to be desired.....and Carlton paid for that against Sydney by being too "Fevola-centric".
They got shut down too easily.

I feel with our forward line....yes, Jack had a good game against the Roos...but Sydney in Sydney is an entirely different proposition where he will be up against someone like Craig Bolton, a much underrated defender.

Add to the poor record we have interstate....and the emotion of the "backs against the wall and Cogs return" being a distant memory....hmmmm.

Definitely not as confident this week as I was against the 'Roos, lets say that.

Livers - Who would you put in the Tiger midfield to combat the "Rolling-Maul" Rugby type of play that the Swans always turn to on the SCG. Our kids will be just brushed/pushed aside. Hislop Thompson to support Coghlan, Tuck and Jackson?

I'd LOVE to sit here and say Cousins...as least he has the body-type to give as good as he receives, but to be honest, I think he should play ressies for a couple of weeks before being rushed back into the seniors.
So I won't consider him.

I think your suggestion Remote is about as good as we can expect because the list we have is just too skinny to compete against the likes of Sydney, who are drafted to play the very physical close-in type "rugby maul" gameplan.

I also expect Simmo to be rushed back in simply because Jolly has been in good form for them and Wallace has a tendency to rush back players after only 1 week in the ressies when, if at any other club, they would have to earn their stripes back in the ressies first.

Its going to be a VERY tough game.

How did Freo manage to flog them so easily ( I didn't see the game) Was it speed, wide open expanses of Subiaco, could someone enlighten me please?

During the 1st and early in the 2nd quarter Freo used the wide open spaces of Subiaco and ran away from the Swans - from then on Freo got as tough and as hard as the Swans in the many many packs that the Swans game style creates. The Swans lifted the their intensity - so did the Dockers. They were just harder and tougher at the ball in the middle of the packs than the Swans and when the Swans did get pocession Freo threw everything at 'em tackles, defensive spoils and chases - pressure pressure and more pressure. Plus Pavlich was a winner all over the ground.

The Swans looked tired and appear not to travel west that well as apparently they have never beaten Freo at Subiaco. They will be a different proposition this week on their own small dunghill the SCG. And they will be angry at dropping the game against Freo that they would of had pencilled in as a win. They will not want to drop this game against The Tigers.............

Thanks for that. It's a bit harder to run them off their feet early with the shape of the SCG. Most teams seem to get forced wide up there, while they rule the corridor. Oh well, we'll just have to outmuscle them too ;D If Freo can do it, surely we can.

Absolutely agree - and Swans are there for the taking this week.

The SCG is no longer their 'fortress' - and while I respect the views regarding their muscle type of play - it is counteracted by their aging squad, lack of pace - and that Terry flew up and has hopefully observed all the very points raised in this thread :rofl

Last year they tore us apart - because we didn't turn up ::)

This year I'm confident that our pace and new found 'pressure' may turn the tide.

PS - I'm in the camp that says bring Cousins in (if he is fit). This guy does not need to run around in the Rezzies. He is immediately within our top 10 and is an automatic selection - albeit with apologies to the young kid who has to stand aside.

Don't know who will get over Geelong or St Kilda this year - Geelong defense has only allowed the opposition 80 points per game on average and St Kilda is even better as their defense has only allowed the oppositon 52 points per game on average.

That makes it hard to kick a winning score against teams that average 120 points scored (Geelong) and 110 points scored (St Kilda) per game.

Some game during the year they will lose - but I do not think it will be a case that either of those teams can be beaten each time they run out.......

From what I've seen of Geelong, I would say they are the exception to that rule. Bloody unbelieveable team at the moment.

True, We went close though!

What about the more obvious form line

Rich d NM by 36 points
NM d Ess by 12 points
Ess d Coll by 5 points
Coll d Bris by 17 points
Bris d Syd by 33 points

Therefore Rich d Syd by 103 points (sorry I couldn't make it match 100!)

Clearly the comp is even and our inept performance in the first 4 weeks has cost us bigtime (we will wait to see how much) in such an even comp.

Only problem is I read in the paper that the Big Bad Bustling One and Micky O will both be returning against us, to form an imposing forward line. 2 targets with real presence.

Our backs will be really stretched.

We might get hammered this week.

Hopefully they both will be under done and in need of a few games before they get to peak form......

No doubt we'll play O'Keefe back into form. Might get him in the Supercoach team.
