Its interesting to see that we picked two rookie players of about the same height as Forte Caruso from Coburg and the Cannons.

I guess that means the end of the run for Forte which is a real shame as he shows the same huge g and d at VFL as he did in the TAC cup.

Re: FORTE CARUSO

From the limited Coburg games I've seen I really admire Forte. I wouldn't have minded him being given a chance to try out at the higher level.

Re: FORTE CARUSO

I think g and d can only take u so far as Kingy may find out in 2009.

Fans love the little battlers but team balance can find them struggling for a matchup.

We didn't fill our rookie list: Fort Caruso?

Even if the pickings became slim, I would have thought Fort Caruso was worth our last rookie spot.

Even if it weren't him, surely we should have filled our rookie list.

Hawthorn have maxed out, 9 rookies.

We really need to strive harder and recruiting and fundraising to get every type of rookie we can, NSW, international, the lot!

Re: We didn't fill our rookie list: Fort Caruso?

I agree that we should aim to fill the rookie list, but if the feeling was that the talent pool was dry - then i dont have an issue with leaving one spot empty.

The fact that many clubs started drafting back their own players in the rookie draft suggests there was not much left.

As for Fort, it would have been a good story, but clearly Nahas and Gilligan were seen to be ahead of him. I like Fort, but he was not going to be an AFL player IMO.

Re: We didn't fill our rookie list: Fort Caruso?

We got Nahas instead of Fort who looks far quicker and more agile.

fort is a battler at VFL level, not up to AFL, unless we rookied him out of sympathy. Nahas is a much better player and has proven that at VFL level. gilligan is unkown

Agree,we could have done alot worse

From what I understand, Fort was given the opportunity in participating in the Tiger's preseason training to see if he was up to it.

The result, that he appears to have gone to SA and 2 other boys of a similar type got rookied, satisfies me that the footy dept went through the correct process.

The AFL standard of game has gone past the likes of Fort Caruso but I do agree we should have used our last draft pick. I can't beleive there's not 1 player out there who was worthy.

I was told that Fort is a good footballer but the other 2 have a special wow factor like cyril.
6 inches taller and they would of picked him up..

From what I understand, Fort participated in the early pre-season training in consecutive years with the hope of elevation. Not only his hope but also the footy dept, as a small goal kicking rover is an essential part of any premiership team. Unfortunately, after those couple of tries, he was still found wanting.

Regardless of whether Fort made it or not, the RFC still needed a couple of goal kicking rovers, as we've needed for a long, long time, and consequently got them.

Yes, Fort could have been rookied. He was afforded the opportunity. Unfortunately he was found wanting.
