FORWARD LINE SET UP RD 1

Carlton will have a handfull if Jack Reiwoldt plays like he has been in the pre season. His still a young kid, but he is important.

Richo and Bowden will cause them headaches, throw in Nathan Brown and they will be overloaded.

Schulz looks like an alco and plays like one sometimes the way he just goes head on into a pack, but he is there for depth more than anything. I'd rather persist with Hughes than Schulz

We've tried Lids at FF and although he would be very good there he is needed in the midfield
i disagree hes desperately needed coming of half back.

if cotchin and connors were fit i would structure the forward line like this.

b moore thursfield newman
hb tambling mcguane deledio

c brown thomson cotchin

hf connors riewoldt richardson
f morton post foley

r simmonds tuck cousins.

theres 5 smalls named from the centre line to the onballers who can all rotate or we should be looking to rotate.imo the only option we have atm other than post as a tall forward is schulz. my preference is to fast track post in a three way rotation thru the two key posts with richo and riewoldt.
from fb to ff ive spread our best players or quality evenly thru the side. other than 4 or 5 nearly all are decent ball users.
with interchange players who i havent named but will now this blows out a bit to 7.
graham bowden rance polo the side has height good structure and as few poor kicks as i can pick with out taking to much away from important areas.
imo the starting 18 is about as good as we can get it.

Would not be unhappy with Lids coming off half back, Clawo
but sadly we all know that Sanchez is gonna get a gig at half back

I suspect that in naming Post, Nahas and Hislop you're picking them on what they're perceived strengths are. "Hislop is the hard nut of the club" sort of thing. Just because that's the major aspect of his game, doesn't make him harder than someone like Tuck who is known more for his workmanlike performances.

They're not realistic selections anyhow. Nevertheless I like you're thinking; on paper that line-up has good balance.

I'd like:

Morton Schulz Bowden/Foley

Brown Riewoldt Cousins/Richo

...sort of thing

I also like the idea of Cotchin and Connors rotating through the forward line, and see Nahas as a chance at some stage.

Yes Broadsword95, my reasoning for my choices are based on their strengths, i didnt add in a cotchin as he'll be ready by RD 3 or 4 and connors played last week V the saints so he's not far off. perhaps the first couple of rounds...

Also forgot that lids could also float in at FF when resting from the midfield...

And simmo obviously will play fwd at times and i guess perhaps rest on the bench too..

We actually have a good spread of goal kickers but i feel they still need that 3 tall whether that be post, patto, hughes, putt, vickery, anyways we'll know as the year progresses whos ready to step up...

I say, Carlton are not appealing at all. In fact, I find them quite appalling.

That sounded like the Little Britain version of Tom Baker to me. :hihi

..........

Good question/thread Astute!

Excellent work Mr Claw. Although I still haven't given up on Hughes so I would go there instead of Post at FF.... make the young guy develop a bit at Coburg. Also, on the bench I flat out do not rate Graham so I would stick with Patto until something better comes along. But in terms of general structure, this is absolutlely the way to go.

My two cents, I'd structure it up something like this.

Richo v Deledio v Cousins v

Riewoldt Morton

Brown Schulz Nahas

Open forward line.

Attacking players Richo, Deledio & Cousins line up across the centre & all given permission to push into the 50m arc.
These 3 guys are long goal kickers who can apply scoreboard pressure from a fair way out.

Riewoldt & Morton push up to the ground as mobile leading options at HF.

Schulz given plenty of space to lead into & also crash packs at FF.
Nahas and Brown to rove the crumbs. Browny is also good at providing the lead as is smart enough to stay out of Jay's way.

This setup allows the extra man to play LMID.

That is a very potent forward line. So if this is a forward line that Terry and the coaching staff use, and we kick straight, Richmond is in for a good night. I don't think we have a had a potent forward line in the last few years that I could trust to kick a winning score.

almost got it claw and i vote for lids at HBF but id go with this

b moore thursfield raines
hb newman mcguane deledio

c mcmahon thomson richo

hf bowden riewoldt cousins
f morton schulz brown

r simmonds tuck foley

A forward line that harbours the likes of Schulz, Hughes, Brown and Morton is gonna let out plenty of un pressured defensive rebound for the opposition.

Your as boring as claw these days.

C: Rich'son, xxxxxxx, xxxxxx
HF: Cousins/Brown, Reiwoldt, White/Edwards
F: Schulz/Simmonds, Hughes/Bowden, Morton
R: Simmonds/Browne, xxxxx, xxxxxx
I: Browne, xxxxx, xxxxxx, xxxxxx

Certainly a few options there.
Again, on a wet day, one less tall would be needed. I guess either of Schulz, Bowden or Hughes would miss out.

Hey Phantom, I notice you've got Big Ranga Browne in the line-up. Ive only seen or heard of this bloke once (last Friday night at the GC), but am among his biggest fans. Could you post a bit of his junior/recruiting story on the Andrew Browne thread???? ta.

TGW, i found this from willo below, 2008 draft profiles....

Andrew Browne – 202cm, 106kg –Murray Bushrangers.
Huge Mountain of a kid whose ruck skills are ok but he does not posses a huge leap in the ruck. Relies on his size in the ruck contests. Around the ground he does show a little nous to get to the areas he needs to be in which helps him a lot as he is not overly quick. He can take a good mark but he does have a habit of dropping a few marks per game that he should really take. His kicking is nothing to write home about either.
He has improved his numbers around the ground this year and has also provided a good target when resting forward allowing him to get amongst the goals a bit more this year.
Although his pace and kicking are the question marks I think someone will see him as a project player for late in the draft.
