Forward Line Structure

What is the best structure to utilise for our forward line? In plain and simple terms its mess. But theres some quality players in there, so whats going on? We look good when we run out of defense, but then when it comes into the forward line, its rebounded straight back. We seriously need a crumber. Brown and Pettifer are too busy looking for cheap kicks in defense and are not where they are meant to be. People bagging Hughes, get off him, at least he presents. He may not be fast and not good on the ground, but thats what crumbers are for. We really need to sort this mess out.

Thats what the rookie draft was for. People like Cameron Stokes slipped through our hands. Guess where he went.

Agreed....id bring Matt White in to play that role. His pure job is sto run, chase, tackle, hassle the opposition defenders....if he kicks a goal or two - a total bonus (he isnt a bad kick for goal either).

Maybe something like:

Brown    Hughes  Richo

Morton    Schulz  White

..the other guy would be Edwards - has a knack of being able to get front and center. We dont have many blokes who know how to do it - BRING BACK D-ROD!!!

I'd firstly look at fixing the midfield problems. Without the midfield, the ball wont get to the forward line.

Best forward line structure, play Richo one on one in an open forward line.

Put Richo on a flank and tell him never to go closer to goal.
Play Shulz as FF and Hughes as CHF and leave them there. We are not going anywhere this year if we continue to bomb it long to Richo.
If Petts and Browny are any good they will feed off the FF and CHF, get Edwards and Morton in the mix when fit and with the inclusion of the young brigade in Conners etc when fit into the headless chook pen we call our midfield we are a chance to actually kick some goals. How many goals did our midfield get today, Foley is getting heavily tagged and no one else stood up.

Here I am 8ball

was thinking the same bout our forward line bring in White and tell him to give defensive pressure

maybe have

Morton Richo Pettifer

White *smile* Brown/Riewoldt

Lids should be in the middle but when he needs to rest do it in the forward line
Brown can be pushed onball

Morton Richo Pettifer/Riewoldt

White *smile* Lids

the problem centres around richo but I'm not sure whose fault it is - the problem being 80% of forward 50 entries are directed at richo - is this because the kicker just looks for richo and can't widen vision to see other options? - or is it becasue richo is where he shouldn't be?

was pretty obvious what was happening yesterday - we just kicked it to richo who had 3/4 people on him - so why kick it to him? Surely richo himself should have knowwn what was going on and taken those 3/4 players wide and out of the play so we could open up other options - exactly what they did to us with jones and grant - in both cases they became the go to

interesting listening to frawley pre-game - said the most frustrating thing with richo was that he constantly went where he was not meant to go - to take this a step futher if richo goes where he's not menat to, then it just confuses the other forwards and the whole system breaks down.

no doubt richo is a champion but he also must learn (and maybe it's to late) that he can be just as effective to the team by taking others out of the game and opening up other options - of course it depends on what the coach is directing and whoo knows what the instructions were yesterday

with a bit more thought we could have been right in yesterdays game despite the woeful 1st quarter

Doesn't stop the others going where he isn't. They should be used to it by now. Occasionally they do it but occasionally they just sit there and wait for it to go to Richo.
