Francis Bourke

Remember an early game against Fitzroy at Punt road where he played on the wing and his opponent was the great Kevin Murray. At one point they fought toe to toe on the grandstand wing for what seemed like 5 minutes, before others came in. The fight a respectable draw but well matched in all respects although Murray much older and Francis I think still in his teens.

Francis the better of the two on the day, which I guess was annoying the older man. One of our greatest ever.

Got to have Sunday lunch at the Bourke's a number of times. Absolutely lovely family and the great man himself was always very nice to a young kid.

I've got some candid and detailed interview material from the great St. Francis coming out shortly in a follow up book to The Hafey Years. The club will make the announcement in due course. Watch this space.

Are you able say what it’s pertaining to, eg his sacking as coach?
