Francis Jackson and recruiting

Just on Father / Sons.

I saw a very fit looking Matthew Knights junior at Telstra on Wednesday.

Definite father/son in about 10 years time.

Seriously, if the boy is a genuine prospect why doesn't the club invest a bit of time in to him now and teach him how to kick properly left and right foot?

???

Fit looking? 10 years before he can be drafted? What does a fit looking 7 or 8 year old look like? Simply not fat? :hihi

Why ? let his old man do the coaching. I'm sure Knights' desire to see his son become an elite AFL player is stronger than our hopes that in 10 years time he might be ok.

That's right!! ;D How fit do you want a 8 year old kid to be............. ???

Not sure how I feel about a grown man calling a 6yo boy "fit looking", especially on an internet forum.

Leysy will write your own ticket on us getting 13 players that can help our club in those 3 drafts.

Near impossible with what they've shown thus far. Completely & utterly unrealistic. Time will show that.

Have to agree with that assessment.

You think Reiwoldt's technique is as bad as Rance?

Didn't comment on that. You said you rate kicking skills highly yet you laud Reiwoldt who is possibly the worst set shot for goal at the club.

Our kicking looks as bad as it does throughout most of the team due to the fact that players don't work hard enough to present and create options further up the field. Watch a game carefully and you will see that 8/10 RFC players kicks are under pressure. Work rate off the ball is our biggest concern, and that is a major area our recruiters should target.

I am aware of a program run by RFC for ex-players kids to be involved in a program at Tigerland. Not sure if it is a development squad more an opportunity for them to identify potential father/son prospects down the track. I am sure it helps if they stay sweet with the father too so you don't get too many Cloke or Murphy situations where the kids turn their back on their old man's club.

You brought up the Jack comparison so it is only reasonable leysy asks your opinion.

Reiwoldts kicking for goal has been substandard the past two weeks. So he does have some work to do. But its not as if its been an issue throughout his career in juniors, at Coburg or at RFC until very recently.
His goalkicking prior to these two weeks at RFC reads 37.18. Which is good even for the most experienced forward.

Therefore leysy would have thought that facet of his play is more redeemable than someone where its always been an issue. Not that hard to grasp wouldn't have thought.

Also his field kicking is still good as its always has been, so its not as he's been a poor kick across the board.

Or maybe we're just seeing the first signs of Jack being Richmondised.

Riewoldt's kicking for goal is diabolical daisy.

Schulz was once a straight kick at goal too, now can't hit the side of a barn most times.

Don't know who's teaching these blokes how to kick but they're doing a sh!t job.

Maybe they are just mentally shot (Richmondised if you like). No confidence.

Maybe the problem is no-one is teaching them to kick
I kinda hope this is it as it is easy to fix

For the past two weeks Jacks has been diabolical. It was always OK before that.

The point on Richmond is valid though isn't it. Lids is another thats showing signs of regressing.

Yeah I do worry about Lids form but are we just expecting too much of these young guys? :-\

I don't like to go looking for excuses but they are carrying an awfully big load that they wouldn't be expected to at most clubs.

Little doubt Riewoldt and Lids are talented but a lost season is dragging for them now and there is little to play for.

They've just go to suck it up, learn as much as they can and focus on their own games because hey are going to be the core if we are to be successful in a few years. Hopefully they are made of the right stuff to do just that.

The ottens saga started with a dispute with the new contract we offered him. We offered X amount but he wanted more. We wouldn't budget because of the number of injuries he had in the last few years, we weren't getting our monies worth out of him.
Both parties couldn't come to an agreement so he left.
We don the right thing. Ottens was soft and spent more time on the sidelines then on the feild.
We got two 1 st round picks for him which we wasted.
Que sera, sera

Just on this point it should not be forgotten that we really did get an excellent deal for Ottens. He wanted to leave, we could have got nothing but we wrangled two first round picks for a bloke that had been Richmondised in the extreme.
The botching of the picks is typical but nobody should ever complain about
a) Him leaving
b) What we got for him.

We did well up until draft day.

Leysy was more talking of Lids goalkicking but what you say is all very correct Tooheys.
