I expected a flogging with the same old hacks getting again, but the tagging role given to Rodan was a disgrace. The kid will be ruined with this hillbilly as coach.
When we needed a bit of spark later in the game, what did spuddud do, left Rodan in a back pocket.
Leon Davis is no threat, why waste talent on him.
I cant wait till Frawley is sacked. We will go nowhere with this Stkilda loser as boss.
He has supposedly a strong defensive background. Why do we have no options when we kick out from fullback?
Why do the opposition rebound from our points?

Yeah have to agree. That was a pathetic effort!!!.

I'm just waiting for Frawley to come out with his usual
"their were positives tonight". >:(

Enough is enough

There were no positives except we turned up!!! and efforts like that are current Richmond like...... >:(

Watching the 1/4 and 3/4 time huddles last night...Frawley spends about 2 mins talking to the players..before that he is pushing his face into a whiteboard thinking of what other players career he can screw up...This dog has to go, he has us playing so defensive our guys are lost, confused and our forward moves have no system or direction. As bad a night Richo had i tip my hat to him, he busted his butt to get things happening as did Cambell. After writting this i will be writting to the Army and see if they can recruit Bowden and try and turn him into a man.He is so soft and needs a huge hit of viagra to harden up some...If we are 0/4 after 4 rounds, My AFL members ticket is available (free) to anyone who wants it.... :'(

I may as well watched a tape from last year because i couldn't tell the difference

Skills. Nothing has changed here. Players still can't hit targets. Goal kicking is woeful, players still kick high up and under passes. No one can hit a target on the lead. How many pre season does it take to fix it???

Forward Line. It seems to me that plans a, b, c, and d all involve kicking it to Richo in a 3 on 1. Where are the other options??? Why doesn't anyone else lead?? Why are there no crumbers? We spent 2 drafts trying to find some.

Bowden. I have defended him in the past but thats going to stop. He is guilty of the worst sin in football. Wasting talent.

Midfield. Cleary beaten. Different faces same problems. I thought with the addition of Blumfield and Johnson, Campbell wouldn't be relied upon so much?? And once again with all his faults and shortcomings Campbell was our best onballer.

Johnson and Blumfield. Johnson started well then stopped. Blumfield was very ordinary from the get go. Not happy at all.

Frawley. not long now.

Miller. You stupid fool.

POSITIVE
Coughlan, Rodan, Zantuck and Newman all put in. There is at least something for Wallace/O'Donnell to work with.

Here here Diggler you are a breath of fresh air, 4 years as coach and going no where message to Clinton Casey....don't let the media cloud your decision, Frawley has to go....I commented last night before the game in 4 years the club has gained little or no respect infact it is worse

Outcoached yet again.

The most annoying things from last night were the fact that there were very few positional changes. We had a few players going on and off, but no one got swung forward, no one got moved anywhere.

The fact that we were crying out for a crumber up forward and had Rodan in a back pocket was a disgrace, anyone could have gone onto Davis.

Maybe Chris Hyde isn;t gonna make it, but he did a reasonable job on Woewodin, then did a couple of nice things across half back and was taken off for Matthew Rogers. THe game was over at this stage, and it was a good chance to see what Hyde can do, we know what Rogers can do, we have been watching it for 10 years.

Vardy sat on the bench all night, we didnt we sit him in the goalsquare up forward, he's no star, but he would have taken a tall player to cover him. With the ball dropping short to the city end, having a big body just permanantly in the goalsquare surely could have been worth a try.

Took too long to move Rogers off Buckley.

Just outcoached in general.

When we are 0-5, the knife will come down, and it wont be a moment too soon.

same old story once again.left to too few.
while its only rnd one one thing that is obvious unless we can find some players who know how to crumb effectivly on the fwd line we will struggle.
while richo did have an off night with his shots at goal[richo has always been bad on a still night let alone a windy night]i was impressed with his work ethic.
newman was good on didak while the rest of the backline held up pretty well.
once again nothing has changed regarding bowden and tivendale.both were very dissapointing again last night.

cameron seems to have lost his effectivness off the hb line. maybe with chaff coming back next week its time to put cameron up fwd.
hopfully last night was down to the pies be better match hardened[remember last year].

chin up people its only rnd one.

Just remember, although we lost, collingwood lost last year and who would've thought they'd go on to be in a Grand Final? Anything is possible my fellow ferals.
Buh-bye round 1, bring on the doggies!

Was listening to triple M after the game and sam newman was saying that we are a disgrace and that nothing had changed from last year. He was interviewing dale weightman and dale said that its early days, its only round one and it takes time to get our game plan going. I felt like throwing up. Next week they'll say its only round 2, then rd 3 etc. - how long do they need ?

The sad fact is that frawley has no effective game plan. My understanding of his game plan from a kick out is - find a target , stop, turn around, find another target, stop, turn around, find richo. Thats all they were doing last night. There was no support play, no link - handball to receive, running through the lines. We were too static, too start-stop, looking for targets by foot, no hard running to get the handball from a marking position, too too Richo conscious, bombing it long all night.

Myself having never played the game, could see it a mile away. Its interesting that Brereton said the same thing when I went home and watched the replay.

Richo, Gaspar, AK, Newman, Staff, were good. Our midfield was pathetic. If frawely thinks by adding 2 premiership players in the middle then all our midfield problems are solved then he is a fool.

Another thing - Rogers. He alone would deter me from going to another game ever again. He is so bad in the midfield its not funny. The only position he is half decent is in the forward line. Does spud have no memory - a few years ago rogers was quite effective when playing permanently in the forward line. He is a hack playing on the ball.

The new 30 metre rule applied last night. I heard one radio commentator comment somthing along the lines that Richo lead 30 metres, was 30 metres in the clear, the kicker was 30 metres clear and the pass missed it's target by 30 metres.

I was astounded how Collingwood could spot up a target inside 50 m almost everytime they went forward, but we could not. The most glearing example of this I thought was when Woewodin marked outside 50 went back and passed it 50 metres to an unmanned WILLIAMS 10 metres in front of goal. Can anyone tell me how that can happen in modern day football.

It wouldn't matter where Richo lead last night they couldn't hit a stationary target let alone a moving one.

I thought FIORA showed a bit and was about the only one who could hit a target with any regularity.

Cambo was excellent given that he was still underdone. The amount of players that were cramping really showed that we are still quite a bit underdone. Hopefully most will be better for the run.

Who was it that said on this forum "I had to run into COUGHLAN"....well ask Andrew WILLIAMS how hard Cogs is.

In a way I am glad of the result last night as now there can be no dellusions as to where we are at. After all remember what Collingwood did last year after we belted them in round 1. Unfortunately the difference is they have MALTHOUSE as the coach. And that is not a jibe at FRAWLEY as I am prepared to let the season develop before I pass judgement.

Things we need to do:

Develop some system going forward.

Be able to hit the target when we implement it, and

Importantly realise that football is still basically a possession game. That means....first we gotta get, then we gotta keep it.....and definitely don't want to give it to them!!!!!!!!

Like most I agree that the RODAN move was ill conceived. Where was TORNEY.....

Thought HYDE did okay on WOEWODIN. Zantuck was very good given his limited preparation. Thought Gas was showing signs of being back to his best and showed some of the forwards how to kick a goal.

Finally any cooporations out there with some sponsorship money to buy each of the guys a football to take home.

Ruck contest were a problems as well as we should have been able to dominate that area. Didn't we trade McKEE once upon a time.

Bring on the Doggies and lets see what we can do with a game under out belts. All is not lost. The guys like JOHNSON, BLUMMFIELD, CAMPBELL, HALL, ZANTUCK should all be better for the run.

Go Tiges

Lets turn last year on its head.

I was close to giving Stafford a vote actually. I don't think Staff and Razor's rucking was a big problem, but moreso their team mates not capitalising on their work.

I thought that Collingwood really slapped us around in the ruck all night. Molloy in the third quarter was just throwing Hall off the ball and McKee was easily one of Collingwood best players.

I have to agree with you there 'TF'

Oh by the way the game is about to be replayed here in Vietnam. Dare I torture myself again. Think I will just to convince myself that it really was that bad.

Is sadism a sign of insanity????

Stafford 8 kicks, 7 handballs, 6 marks, 17 hitouts, 4 tackles
Hall 10 kicks, 4 handballs, 6 marks, 14 hitouts, 5 tackles
Mcee 11 kicks, 9 handballs, 5 marks, 8 hitouts, 2 tackles (And gave away a free in front of goal)

We had 32 hitouts to Collingwoods 16, but imo didn't capitalise on them.

Yeah just like Robert Walls couldnt coach and neither could gishen ::) wake up 2 urselves we need stablity not a whole bunch of supporters trying 2 dictate wat would b good 4 the club face it we played one of the best teams in the league last nite we wont be the only team they beat theyre on a roll. Its round one 4 godsake and i think i remember a team last yr that lost by 38 points in round one and looked bad and they went on 2 make the grand final where as the team that beat them finished 14th

JBF like your optimism and I agree that it is only round 1, but we seem to be making the same mistakes. We need to develop more options going forward. Even the Journo's have been flogging us this morning so we can't all be wrong surely.

We need to see some serious improvements in the coming weeks if we are to show any progress this year.

I hope that that happens.

From watching the replay from last nights game again (I love to be tortured) I beleive our problem is our game plan in the way we run as a whole unit.

There is a definate lack of players running hard from behind a teamate that has marked or is in possession to receive a lateral handball. Collingwood was constantly doing this. McKee dished off numerous handballs to teamates that were prepared to run from BEHIND him and receive the ball.

We did not do this at all. Our running was focussed on making leads in front of the player with possession and when the leads were covered there was no LINK play from players streaming from behind the play.

This is why when there were no options in front of the player with the ball the player was static, hesitent and took the easy option in bombing it long.

I'm no coach but i've noticed this alot last year and was very noticable last night. Its much more noticable when your'e sitting at the top of the southern stand. For all you out there that do sit high up, next time you go to a game pay attention to this and you will see that we are very poor in this area as compared to the other team.

While I'm in this football brainstorming frame of mind (just watching brisbane demolish essendon) I just want to add a few more comments on top of my previous posts above about my observations.

I mentioned that we lacked run from players behind the play to receive handballs from marked and general possession. I firmly beleive this is due to frawelys game plan and his insistence on players to be accountable.

I noticed on a few occassions last night when we had possession at CHB from a kick in that Rodan and Newman hesitated to leave their man and run to provide a handball opportunity. They were determined to stay with their man all the time even when we had possession. This is directly due to frawelys instructions to stay on their man and be accountable.

Accountability is important but so is attacking, risk taking football. Probably even more important IMO.

This lead to numerous occassions where someone like campbell or cameron had the ball at half back and had no option but to kick long, ball rebounds, and collingwood stream forward.

More importantly this inhibits Rodans and Newmans confidence to run off their man, take chances, improve their skills, and generally improve as a player.

Accumulation of these type of players will lead to a team that is reactive, static, low in skill level, low in confidence, no momentum in its thrusts forward. I'm probably taking it a bit too far but you get the jist.

Another thing, frawelys introduction of youngsters has been criticised on this forum in the past and I have to agree.

When a rookie makes his debut he is mainly on the bench. When he gets limited game time it is either bunkered in the forward line or in a run with role.

Getting a kick in the forard line is hard enough being a specialist forward these days and it makes it much harder when you have richmond players delivering it. The player will have limited opportunities to show much if anything at all.

Playing a run with role is very negative and immediately instills a reactive game style on a player. Its even more demorolising when the youngster gets beaten as he more times than not would as he is up against a more mature and experienced player.

The above is why I beleive RFC is heading in the wrong direction and why frawely is not up to it.

Its ok to hold players accountable and I think we all can accept that, but when will Frawley own up and say that his game plan and the way he is coaching players to adopt to this is not working...

It seems to me that we are being coached with our best option of what to do. If you look at the Sheedy's and Pagans or Matthews and now Malthouse. They have a game plan and if it isn't working they seem to be able to turn up the heat in some way by a strategic move or new style that the players know and understand.

Frawley I think tries this but our players don't seem to respond or we don't have a Hird, Carey, Buckley that can take a game by the scruff of the neck. It happens with Richmond in bursts and unfortunately that ain't gonna win you games my friends.

We don't hunt in packs like the Brisbanes, or Adelaides, nor do we kick a big score. When was the last time Richmond actually thumped someone............ ???

What I'm trying to say in summary is that teams know what we are going to do and you've half won the game when you have figured it out. Just lay down another ace or two and take the kitty because at the moment RFC shows their hand and all we have is two pair.......

Remind me to take Frawley on at poker one day I'd be a Millionare. ;)
