Free kick against Foley

It was a fifty fifty. Could have paid either. I thought the attempt was enough and there may have been slight contact but it was fair enough.

I reckon it was there. Can't blame the umpires- shouldn't lose from over 4 goals up regardless of the umpiring.

The umpiring was shocking today, but you cant blame them for maybe getting the Foley decision wrong because looking at the replays if he did get a hand on it, then it was the most minute of contact.

At the time everyone in the ground pretty much seemed to think it was a free. Certainly didnt look good from afar.

Agree, MK. No use bleating about that decision... Foley probably did get a graze on it...but how can the ump pick that up?

Ok just watched the game again, he did get his fist to it, yes it was slight but u can see his fist is clenched and got his fist to it, no free kick it should of been play on...

Trying to be a bit "cute", should have thumped it and left no doubt

He missed the ball, but not by as much as the ball was over the line when Richo marked it. :)

I agree that technically Foley's shouldnt have been a free. The only logic would be that his handball was so small the umpire deemed him to still have control of it in front of him! Who knows!

But there were other crap decisions all game. The in the back decision against Patto when he ran a WB player down from behind was a shocker! The player has been brought to his knees while attempting to kick after taking Patto on!

Patto was text book and got penalised for it.

The holding the man decision to Harris-Lake in the goal square in the first term. Countless soft frees thatenabled the dogs to get centre clearances!

But trying to ice the clock with 8 minutes to go??????????? I guess it will come with experience!

If we keep pressuring like we are now, we'll win more than we lose with lots of players pressing for selection. We'll have our bad days, but it's looking better than a few weeks back. I guess we just sit back and enjoy the ride, and hope we can do better than out typical 9th!

Technically, Foley did handball just in front of himself, which every kid from junior footy on is told to do in the same situation. The ball was turning/spinning in the air which indicated that he had handballed. Technically it was play on.

Point was that Foley's handball was so gentle it didn't look like one and the umpire deemed it improper disposal.

Those are the breaks.

Foley will learn that it's not enough just to be handballing but to be SEEN as handballing.

Yep, that's how I read it too Phanto - too cute by half and paid the price! He'll be better for it after a review tomorrow ;)

Believe it or not Tim Watson made a good point today about 50m penalties being too tough for slightly running over the mark. A good example of how once you introduce a new rule it becomes distorted as to why it was introduced in the first place, hence my abhorrence at the into of any send off rule.

Whats with the 50m penalties, why did they only pay them early in the match? Players still ran through over the mark later in the game. It seems like the umps are under instructions to be tough early in the game!

There were plenty of times that players just let the ball spill as soon as they were tackled and it was either play on or the tackler was penalised rather than being payed because of incorrect disposal. To ping Axl for being a little to cute with his handpass was pathetic.
Copping the draw instead of the win will just help to put a bit of steel into the boys.
They are working well for one another and will be rapt to find how competitive they can be when they attack the game instead of playing ring a rosy with the short safety first crap.

In my humble unbiased opinion it was a shocker of a decision. :o

Oh well life goes on. In a drawn game there were any number of decisions that could have swayed the game either way. The important thing is that this side is playing with flair and dash and more than little bit of skill. Well done lads, you may not have got the four points, but you won a lot of brownie points.
