Anyone see Piva Wright's first kick?

A beautiful 40m daisy cutter through traffic and hit his target on the chest.

If it wasn't a fluke then geez....got some good kicking skills.

Nah, it wasn't a fluke, he is a very good kick

I see no hope for Post Webberly and Dea (all have poor kicking skills). Cant believe they gave Dea no. 7. Very impressed with Dix,Ellis Morris(although needs time to adjust to AFL) and of course Little Maric. Excellent skills and an excellent footy brain. Happy to get within a goal, even though we lost the plot in the end. Well done lads.

Game was pretty bad, both sides played average footy and would have been punished by any of the better teams.

Didn't take alot out of it that hasn't already been said, but I must say, firstly macguane should not get another game for us ever... He is like a virus and some of his play made the whole of our back line look amateur. Secondly I've seen enough of post now I think. He just doesn't have it in him to make it. People bag rance, but he always had a crack, post just seems to go at half pace. He is not up to the speed of the game, and it has been evident for his last 5,6 games..

Was also a little dissapointed in Houli, he didn't show alot, and doesn't seem to be hitting his straps yet. Was poor in our first game too.

Standout for me was a.maric, he was the sole reason we got back in it in towards the end. He was very effective as the link man and was brilliant in and around the 50. Very creative, we have a real player on our hands and we got him for free.

I'd also like to see both griffiths and astbury get a game, where are they at and why haven't they played yet?

I think we will find this year that our first 22 is very competitive, we have added some players that will come straight in(i.maric,a.maric,ellis) which should see us move up a notch, but come the second half of the season when we get some injuries we might drop away. Let's hope we can stay healthy.

Watched the replay last night after not seeing the game live. Plenty of observations already pointed out by others but to me the biggest positive was that Jack Riewoldt looked really sharp. I think we are going to see him playing up the ground more this year which to me is a very good thing because he is such a smart footballer.

A few other things
1. Dusty was good but I wish he would cut out these dinky little passes and kick the ball. The kid has a hoof like a mule, just use it !!
2. I Maric will make a major difference to us, competitive and gets to contests.
3. Thought A Maric and Connors looked good, they really add to our depth.

Standard of the game was generally pretty poor but most of these games are at this time of the year.

Lids suffers from the same problem.
There should be a general rule that a supporting runner to these two guys has to back off and shepherd them and let them run and carry more. Too often Lids gives up the crappy 3m handball to a poorer kick and then shepherds them when he should demand them to clear the way for him.

Cricketers can think, footballers have their heads stuck too far up their own .....!

As evidenced by Phil Hughes playing the same shot to get out everytime he walks to the wicket?

Time for a rant.

I cannot believe the hysteria on this thread about Posty. Was wondering if I was watching the same game.

The boy has played 22 games in 3 years.

To compare, before his first game in 2011 Rancey had around the same amount of experience, had played around the same number of games in the same number of years as Post does now. He looked completely unco and basically like he had no idea.

Look at Rancey now - a year after being told to make FB his own.

Look at Vickery - 12 months ago he was exactly the same. Timid and lacking confidence. Look at him now, a year after he was told he was to play as a deep tall forward.

I reckon the coaches will tell Posty that he'll play in a settled role every week, to give him a chance to get a run of games without fear of being dropped. This will build his confidence. I believe that's all he is lacking. Sure, we're playing to win this year, but development in the young KPPs is still massively important.

Rance is now our most experienced tall defender with 44 games (I discount McGuane for obvious reasons, and I doubt Moore will ever play again).

I saw Posty play some great games for Coburg last year and he's starting to show us that he can mark, he can spoil, he can read the play and he can kick at senior level. The poor kicking on the weekend from him was the exception not the rule. He must be given every opportunity and this will be his break-out year. I can feel it.

As for the kicking errors, when you see players like Bachar kicking it out on the full, under no pressure, it puts it into perspective.

But those writing off Posty - get a grip. Surely we've seen enough to know not to judge these young talls after so few games?????

In summary grumpy one.
Are you perhaps suggesting we compare our Stumpy's achievements thus far to a certain tall demons forward ( who shall remain un-named but couldn't get near it on the weekend, then got lambasted by the media experts ) and adjudicate a reasonably favourable assesment of the Stumpy ones development so far?

I agree. He has much more credibilty than those other clowns.

What's wrong with Lynch? Or Whately before him? What actual insight into football does Flemming provide? He seems to be just there for bad comedy and to incite Frawley & Dunstall to attempt even more pathetic comedy at each other's expense, an encouragement neither seem to require. If that's his brief then why not at least get an actual comedian along the lines of a Mick Molloy...or anyone but Peter Hellier...

Yeah, that was pretty funny because when Webberley actually turned it over a short while late, Shaw decided that he had seen enough and called for the end of his career. Two bad skill errors from a player that he had probably never noticed before (one incorrectly attributed) was enough for him.

The other Shaw-ism which amused me was earlier in the game when he decided that the reason why Brad Miller was playing well was that he had lost some weight. He then concluded that all players who leave one club, get a second chance at another club and do well improve because they have lost weight.

There certainly are a few nuffies commentating on Foxtel these days.

Haha. Great post, sir.

Shaw is a grade A goose. The standards for being considered a footy 'expert' are mighty low.
