I've been thinking about this one. Who can we lock into a Premiership class side now?

FB Vacancy Gaspar A.Kellaway
HB Vacancy Vacancy J.Bowden
C Coughlan Vacancy S.Tuck
HF Vacancy Vacancy Vacancy
FF N.G.Brown Richo Vacancy
R Vacancy K.Johnson Vacancy

Int T.Simmonds, B.DeLedio, C.Newman, Vacancy

We have a few vacancies (we've got to stop recruiting them!) but so do Sydney and West Coast and look where they finished.

CC's looking for the future lock-ins in the side. If you're not premiership class, you're never locked in. So who's emerging as Premiership class? And when?

Seems to me that most of our new lock-ins will come from the group already named improving to play more important positions.

If Cogs can get his body right he may pass Sugar as our #1 inside midfielder. If Tuck can polish his disposal and add some new ways of getting the pill he could be an inside/outside heavy ruckrover- gold. If Newman can start ot win some leather in traffic he may become a class defensive mid.

And if Deledio can escape the second year blues he may pass em all this year. A fit in-form Simmonds is always a good enough change ruck.

So who's coming in?

B.Hartigan, J.Schulz, R.Tambling, W.Thursfield and MAYBE D.Rodan if he's right, look the obvious next tier to me. Along with maybe the Weeble, N.Foley. Humm next IMO.

Pattison has better raps on him than his form in either grade warrants which makes me think he's showing the coaches a lot in the one-on-ones and on the track. I rate him behing Jackson and Polo on what I saw of them at Coburg but still in the next tier with them.

Gilmour getting the arse will have sent some shockwaves through the second year players with Dean Limbach the first to show a palpable improvement in attitude. Meyer, who did not grow and looked to be lacking belief in the Magoos could be among the surprise improvers. If Raines starts to seek and find his own leather he could be a comer and White could show early. I would not be surprised to see Roach improve ahead of Raines this year. I also give Casserley some chance of blooming early. IMO this is the next tier.

Hughes is a month older than McGuane and I expect him to provide suitable competition for his similar team-mate.

JON looks very young to me and if he can show out at Coburg I reckon he might get a shot on a HFF at some stage. Very immature physically and the baby of our list.

I'm looking forward to this preseason as we'll start to get an idea of who is on the way into our AFL Premiership lock-ins. I expect three additions this season. B.Hartigan, J.Schulz, R.Tambling are my guess but I ain't sure.

I'm confident though that at the end of the season, three vacancies will be looking for new jobs. ;D

Aside from Tucky there are a few unknowns in that group. If they make it we'll be a very handy team. If they don't shape up we'll be in a spot of strife depth wise.

I hope Trent and Troy really slot into regular positions this year, as I expect they will but a few of the others will have to lift to be in the top 22.

Thankfully they're young and have had some experience now and should be ready to go on with it.

Exciting times ahead and I think the practice cup series will be very competitive with several up and coming players all trying to impress and claim a spot.

Lock-ins looks a lot better than it did a few years back. I'll have a go.

FB- Vacancy Vacancy Thursfield

HB- McMuffin Vacancy K.Moore

HF- Edwards Riewoldt Vacancy

FF- Vacancy Vacancy Vacancy (Int: M.Morton)

Rucks: Vacancy Int: Vacancy

Mids: Cotchin, Deledio, Foley, Vacancy, Vacancy (Int: Tuck)

If we can recruit class and muscle to fill the vacancies we're going somewhere.

We have a list of soldiers in: Tambling, Newman, Polo, King, White, Meyer (injury was always the first problem).

We have irons in the fire re smalls: Collins, Connors, Casserley.

We have irons in the fire re talls: Rance. Maybe the Steamer and the Sarge.

Ruck prospects are slim - literally. Putt, Graham, Patto.

It's miles better than it used to be.

But most will have noticed that we don't have a single aggressive heavy player to take forward. Our list is mightily unbalanced and we have to address this now. We are frighteningly skinny. Historically so. Vacancy is by far the heaviest toughest player we've got and he doesn't even exist.

Do we want to be known as the Oxfam Tigers? We already are.

If we don't draft strong/heavy from now on, everybody is on acid.

I think CC needs to be held accountable for his claim of Hartigan as a lock-in! ;)

What I noticed is how much CC's grammar and punctuation has improved.

Good work,

Leysy'd have Moore locked in as a key back FWIW.

Dare say Missing & co might have some fun with CC's post... ;D

Heh heh, I thought only Redford thought Hartigan was going to be a 200 game player - and Knobel as first ruck!
