The club was smart , hold on till next year 2 1st picks 2 2nd picks & 2 3rd picks .))).
Can bunch them to move up to a top 5 or use for a gun in free agency.
We have 6 players who can come straight in next year that didn't play this year ...all good ..

I don't disagree that next years draft will be more on exposed form. But surely Blair and Clarke would've known of these kids this year too.
The Tassie forward should've been given a go.

He hasn't even been drafted and you are annoyed we didn't use our 1st on him. Ok then.

I'm hoping its Zach Merrett that we are targeting

He's a FA next year, if the Bombers are crap next year as expected then I can't see them matching. Imagine that, Merrett, and then 6 in the draft. Or potentially use a couple to trade into the top 10 and get a future star to replace Cotch or Jack as well as bringing in Merrett.

No
These blokes would've known of at least 40 kids capable of playing in the AFL.
How we couldn't have selected a kid at pick 19 has me confused.
Unless they want to start the new era next year, I'm not sure.
We will be praying that Geelong fall into the same hole Adelaide fell in.
Geelong went into the off season with gold, 3 first rounders and today all they have to show for it is a 18 year old kid that can run.

A bob each way hey ZIp

You state "these blokes" so assuming you mean our recruiters would've known of at least 4- kids capable of playing AFL. And you would be right.

By extension they should also know 40 kids in next year's draft capable of playing AFL

That they chose to trade into next year's draft one would assume that they rate the 2021 draft kids higher.

Anyway which way all will be revealed in 12 months time

Fingers crossed. We need a mobile tall forward and tall defender.
Whats GC got? Thats our draft.
We can't afford anymore Ellis, Lennon's and Higgins picks.

Im on record here saying i wouldnt draft Baldwin due to injuries and speed as well as agility and some people in the media had him in the 1st round I also have mentioned that i wouldnt take Callow due to him dominating a lower league of kids and he is a man child with no leap and average pace. These are not the fowards that would get a game atRichmond.

Next year we have a pocket full of picks that we can take players that will fill our needs , The only fowards in this years draft were not available at our 2nd pick but were not 1st round value

Neale , Allison,Treacy , McMahon and as a developing KPP Kolar who still has not been drafted the rest were all taken later.

Trading out our 1st was a good trade , I would have rather done #17+#36 for Pies 1st rounder but it is what it is and lets move on

This was on the afl site, while Brisbane and Gws were applauded for getting an extra first round pick.
Mr Ben Sutton thought our first pick Geelong didn't command the same response. Maybe Mr Sutton hasn't seen the damage we cause a team after we beat them in a GF.
Both GWS and Adelaide have gone back to rebuilding.

Pretty sure we gave up pick 20, so anything below that is a bonus in a normal draft year.
Due to coroner cooties, this years draft was fairly skinny while next years draft is expected to be fairly fat. Extra first round pick for us should be a bonus even if it somehow pushed out to near pick 30, and that won't happen.

Bump

Changed from my OP, I'm not as bullish on the young midfielders that we have. Cotchin might only have one more year in him, Dusty is 30 in a couple of months and will probably spend 50/50 midfield and forward the next few years. Sheda is a jet and good for a couple more years at least, but will be 33 this year. Prestia has done his hammy twice this year, and has been injury prone.

If it's a strong midfielders draft I think we should be targeting a few of them.

Thoughts.

Yes
We get some young key forwards in 2022,2023 drafts when we probably finish bottom 4-6

I'm not as negative as some, and actually think we are well placed to rebuild on the run.

The below is our Best 22 and I have colour coded them. Red are players that will be gone within 3 years (Edwards is the only one that may remain longer than 3 years), orange gone within 5 years and green are long term players.

We need to know if CCJ can play as he can help to replace Jack and provide that structure. We can probably recruit a stopper in place of Astbury if Miller doesn't come off via FA (they don't need to be worldbeaters, just athletic), but the area that we have the biggest issue for me is midfield. We'd be left with Bolton (great) and Graham (good) but lack midfield depth. We need to know if Ross, RCD or Dow can be in that rotation, but even so lets say we get 1 of them as a long term player, its something that could be corrected in 1 draft, then draft some more talls whilst we can too.

We need to get those 4 players in particular (CCJ, RCD, Dow and Ross) into the team this year to at least see what they can do, and if an opportunity presents itself, Miller also.

Fair enough , you may be right but i think we may fall away quicker than people think..
Thats not necessarily a bad thing either , 6 picks this year plus some early picks next few years could set us up for a quick turnaround for success

I just look at it with Balta and potentially CCJ, could set up at least part of the spine for the next 10 years. A lot to like about CCJ, just need to see if it translates across to the AFL. I'm not sure our defensive setup is right at the moment, using Balta as a stopper on the best forward is where I think we should be using Astbury and trying to get Balta 1st line of offence out of the back line.

Takes longer to build your spine, and mids can generally turn it around quite quick, particularly if we can find a way to add a top 10 talent. Saints pick also looking like it will be a nice one (ie. top 25). 1 great draft could turn our midfield depth very quickly. 1 or even 2 out of Ross, Dow and RCD and then 1st 3 picks being mids (or if we can get into the top 10 even better)
