We have played the last 5 at the mcg, which is great , but one thing that concerns me is that we have played a lot of wet weather footy and on very soft grounds. I have felt in the last couple of weeks we have looked a little flatter. I hope all these wet weather games haven’t taken too much out of them

Good point Sin. The rest pre finals will be welcomed.

Clarkson didn't get this memo before Friday night. But then again they only won by 56.

We would have beaten GWS by more. They clearly didn't want to be out there in the cold. Is there a softer front running team than GWS? Essendon maybe but they're not that good anyway.

Edit: Everyone seems to be talking about Carlton's bright future but their team was older than ours and 3 of their top 5 disposal winners are over 32 years of age and one other is 29yo and their 3 current rucks are 30,30 and 28.

That's OK, let them have some false hope... makes the eventual disappointment even sweeter for us

I see that Nanks got a $3000 fine and another two players from who cares only got $2000 for infractions. Why to Tigers seem to constantly cop harsher penalties...

It is the colour of the jumper that counts.

Not sure if anyone reads sports papers anymore but I still read The Age & have been disappointed in the standard of match reporting this year. Daniel Cherney did our game Sunday and he could not find a spot for Nick Vlastuin in the tigers best. He named 7 players in front of him including Astbury & Ellis. You could not have watched that game and not noted Vlas as the best tigers defender on the day. I can see how you could find Graham/Prestia/Edwards in the best 3 but Vlastuin is easily the next best in that case.

I'm not sure the journo's doing the match reports actually watch the games.

Agree for both the Hun and The Age. I notice some mis-spelling and bad grammar which makes me wonder if these 'journos' are schoolkids....

I find I can't read the hun anymore, that goes for all of their sports writing - footy, cricket, golf etc.

I know Daniel, nice lad, St Kilda tragic. Not the best observer, I agree. I chastised him last year for failing to give Chimp a vote when he was clearly BOG against Collingwood. (Zero Brownlow votes for Chimp either: 3 Nank 2 Dusty 1 Treloar because they look at stats - but he got all 10 Coaches votes, which is all you need to know.)

The standard of sports writing in this country is pretty poor overall. Dinny Navaratnam on the AFL site is possibly the worst judge of sport I have ever seen.

Oops, funnily enough whilst bemoaning the accuracy of sports reporting I've named the wrong journo!! It was Ronny Lerner who did the tigers game! I must have pinged Cherney in my mind for another faux pas. I'll see if I can track that one down....

Les was great. McFarline was testy, but you knew where he stood. Jack Fingleton had a way with words. Ron Carter. Martin Flanagan. Brent Croswell was a ripper. Greg Baum doesn't do reporting anymore, just the odd pontification. Richard Hinds' head disappeared up his own arse. Jake Niall is a dope. The Hun pack are morons.

We've never had a Damon Runyon, except in these pages.

Second offence for Nank.

Noticed a couple of journo's pushing for Riewoldt to be sanctioned for an alleged "chicken wing" on Jones. Bad luck chaps.

Dont forget the esteemed chief of whatever at the Hun. he will surely enter the journo hall of fame one day.

My favourite football writers (although they never did match reports) were Brent Crosswell and Martin Flannagan.
