Though Schulz was important tonight. Put his body on the line time and again, ran hard both ways, and kicked straight when it mattered.
Jackson was interesting to watch. You could tell he wasn't used to the pace of the seniors, evidenced by the number of times he was caught. But he did some good stuff, his delivery by foot is more often than not both creative and accurate. Worth persisting with for another season, I reckon - there's something there.
There was an interesting period when Richo was off, and both ruckmen were on. Simmo in the ruck, Patto at CHF. It worked pretty well, with Patto providing a hit up target, bringing the ball to ground, and gathering and dishing off as though he were a foot shorter. It was only five minutes or so, but maybe Patto's not the one-trick pony some would make him out to be.
McMahon should never be allowed to take another kickout as long as he lives. McGuane should be instructed to run in and spear-tackle him if he so much as makes a move towards the basket of footies after a behind is kicked. I mean, seriously, what the *smile*.
Newman deserves to be dropped on the back of his performance. Every time he touched the ball, something went horribly wrong. It's like he looked for the player most under pressure to send a hospital handpass too... seriously, a protected species if ever there was one.
Edwards didn't do much either, at least not enough to keep someone else out of his spot in the team. Johnson got kaned (ha ha) for that handball inside 50 in the last quarter, but what about Edwards' disgraceful effort earlier in the game? Needs to play the percentages a bit more I think, there'll be plenty of time later on for the party tricks.
Best game I saw Joel play for a long time. My favourite passage of play was where he set Kane up beautifully, Kane *smile*ed it royally, and Joel followed up by showing him how a leader plays footy with an awesome tackle that resulted in a free kick and goal. I like it when Joel gets desperate, he's a different player.
So anyway, Meyer and Collins in for Newman and Edwards. Meyer for his form against the kittens, and Collins in because I hear he's the dogs nuts.
Yee-hah grandma.
