Game day thread - Tigers v Lions

Skill error's killed us.

Main culprits from my viewpoint;

Kane Johnson tried his guts out but just cannot kick and his decision making for a veteran is shocking.

Tivendale, two good kicks followed by three shockers. We put up with it for ten years so I should be used to it.

Raines, some shocking choices when the ball was in his hands and some classic up and unders.

On the flip side Joel on Brown was super. A noticeably slimmed down Brown ( he isn't that much bigger then Joel now) was well held. Joel actually matches up on Brown really well. A couple of things Joel did with the ball tonight were pure magic. The under ground kick that went 5 metre to Polak when he didn't have time to handball, the spoil and recovery on a leading brown, the keep in play and under ground handball, just sublime. Joel has turned into the 2000 model of Paul Roos.

And kudos to Daniel Jackson holding one of the one the true superstars of the game to a draw, which is a clear win for us. Jackson showed great concentration and actually caught Black napping on the way back a few times. Black leading him to the ball at the stoppages helped take him to the ball and once ther he did OK, winning a few clearances. He also looked a lot sharper in getting rid of the ball, in the past he has had a massive wind up for a kick or a handball. Tonight he had sure hands and nimble dexterity. Jackson's best game for the RFC on top of a solid effort last week. Still needs a lot more to hold his spot for beyond this year but a couple of handy games. Well probably get Peter Bell next week in the same role.

A few points...
A: I am emotionally exhausted and gutted
B: It was heartening to see the players appear gutted that they did not win...makes me think at least they wont accept it.
C: Kayne P - Coburg to find some form or at least regain the minimal physcial presence that he once had
D: Matty White - Basic skills....but ZERO field vision. Lost his direct opponent numerous times, ran straight in to opposition traffic numerous times when in possesion
E: The leaders - WHY OH WHY leave Mattty White to dwell on his errors on his own...not one senior or junior player went to him to encourage or advise....TERRIBLE....although his self punch in the head was pretty funny
F: Foley - A goer...but a turning in blind circles is creeping in to his game...needs to be mindful of his skills
G: Raines - Lost the plot completely....back to basics and try not to do the impossible all the time

i think rainsy some times is a bit surprised he has the ball...thens it "deer in the headlight" scenario....but he still likes to them on....once he learns when to and when not to.

Jackson played ok on Black, but being a tagger isn't worth much unless you can have a positive influence on the game in turn. Unfortunately, Jackson doesn't have that ability. Gone at seasons end.

Nup totally disagree here, thought Jacko did well and won enough of his own ball to make a very positive contribution. Thought it was one of the best games I have seen from Jacko at this leve.

Deledio soft, Foley is starting to look a little lost out there, but still manages to be the best player out there for us. Polak played well again... solid as a rock down there... Thursfield gets beaten time and time again. Can't understand the big wraps on the boy. Doesn't do much at all.
Lids was quiet early but saw Foley coming in off the back of the square early and think we were too defensive early and a bit unfair on these two guys given our game plan early.

Kane Johnson is hopeless. Like someone posted before, his last 5 possessions, in a clutch situation were turnovers. Surprise surprise. Can't believe this joke is our captain.
Very disappointing for mine.

Agree Scoop. Thought this was Jacko's best game in the Yellow and Black. Seemed to have gone up a cog and did not get lost in traffic like he used too. Well done Jacko.

I felt some kind of Dull apathy at the final siren.

I also felt that the Lions had played much better than us, so we were lucky to get a draw.

Edwards: Good prospects, long way off consistency
Tambling: Wandered around pointlessly most of the night
Deledio: Such great skills, so little impact. Mind you, Sherman, his opponent, did little
Jackson: Very good, even commanding at times
King: Busy. generally effective. RUNS FOR HIS TEAMATES
Bowden: Excellent as always
Newman: What he did he did well. Maybe could have done more
Thusfield: Stuck at his task but a bit below par.
Johnson: Nuff said
Tivendale: Pretty good. Got us more than one goals with long, confident passes into the forwardline.
Pettifer: Useful, kicked the pressure goal, but field kicking and presence well down.
Pattison: Shows promise, worked hard, cost us four goals. Very mixed bag.
Foley: Tagged hard, still had a good game. Amazing how well he passes into our forwardline
Richo: As always. Very good
Schulz: Lost. Tried a bit, but no real idea of what he was doing on the field
White: Real goer. Gets run down a lot but I really liked his game
Polo: Quiet game for him, but good player. Confident, makes good decisions.
Raines: Too quiet, but generally good.
Howat: Useful as a receiver coming out of full back, but needs to do a lot more than this.
Kingsley: Gave a way frees, can't kick...and that's the positives.
Tuck: Pretty solid contributor, still not dominating.
Polak: Like this kid. Great hands, good skills, real presence on the field. Shame we have to use him in ruck, which means Shulz gets put in defence where he is totally lost.

Coach: Still hasn't instilled any teamwork at the Tigers. Time and again one Tiger would be left battling two opponents whilst other tigers players 20-25m away would stand there and watch. If a high ball is going out to a contest on the wing, wouldn't you run over and help, if you were a loose Tigers player, knowing that there is an 80% chance the ball will spill to the ground from the contest?

Apparently not.

Ever.

Flooding? Us? Why? Win loose or draw, I won't go and watch that kind of footy again.

What about Brown's massive push in Polak'S back 2 seconds before Lappins screamer goal 3/4 time? Sheeeesh!!

Tivendale for most of the time I thought. That was Nigel Lappin of old, he slapped us.

He was great, went toe to toe with one of the AFL's best midfielders and drew even. He is really comming along.

I noticed in the 3rd quarter that Tuck took Lappin to the goal square for a while in an effort to negate his influence. But other than that he played wide of any opponent I think.

yep and was very noticeable before even the first bounce that he was a loose player.

In the first half and for a fair bit of the 2nd. - It was very noticeable that Lappin and for a while Adcok were loose. And also Drummond obviously.

What staggered me was I found it hard to see who in turn were our loose men. shows our loose men had little to no influence.

It was a huge
