I am so looking forward to the return match in R18 and give them their comeuppance. They acted like they won the flag. *smile*

All they had to do was tag Dusty out of it and we were cooked.

Said it before and I will say it again, chaos doesn't work with these rules. It's a pathetic bomb it long to Richo but even Jack and Punchy aren't half the marking beast that Richo was.

Lynch and Riewoldt did alright. It's the ball coming out again that's the problem. We're less able to set up the wall. Is that the rules, or personnel? Probably both.

But that is what our gameplan is about, get the ball in at any cost at any sort of trajectory.

We so often have massive inside 50 numbers with horrid scoring conversion.

As you say the ball coming out just gets waltzed out and often easy linked up transition play as a result.

To be fair the lions did alot of this bomb it to their forwards as well, but they had other avenues.

transition mids. the second handball guys.

Dusty? not really. third handball / kick

RCD? no. first handball

Ross? first handball

Graham? defensive mid. tackler

Baker? first handball

cotchin. first and second handball. transition mid.
edwards. second handball specialist to release into space. transition mid.
prestia. first and second handball. transition mid.
bolton. third handball / kick, like dusty.
lambert. second handball. transition mid.

we aren't playing any bona fide transition mids. this is why we can't spread at the moment and why teams are winning so many clearances.

when oppo midfields get a sniff they start running forward to dangerous positions and the rest of our structure is put under pressure. when our D50 is put under pressure, our small forwards are sucked too high in support, meaning they have to run harder to get forward and crumb. often they will be a second or two too late, lynch/jack bring it to ground but it is cleared easily, leading to a critical shortfall of F50 tackles.

structure 101. you need your transition mids and we haven't been playing any.
Great post. All of our transition mids were out, and Brisbane smashed us on the transition. Every time there was a contest and the ball was bobbling about, we had no one there for the second or third handball receive. This makes a MASSIVE impact on our game. Chin up people.

My thoughts in the cool light of day.

a really unenjoyable night at the footy.

as a spectacle, it felt similar to the sydney game at the gabba last year. Stilted, highlight-free, flooded, unexciting footy. In the 2nd q, as they steadied themselves, their behind the ball set-up felt very much like Geelongs in the 2nd q of the GF

the umpiring was horrendous. I found myself unable to enjoy the game at all really, even when we were winning.

some unusual coaching. Saw DTLD, vlastuin and rcd at full forward through the night???

Marlion had a shocker. He seemed to be involved in as many brisbane score chains as the umps

you could really see us lose momentum everytime Nank rested. We really need a 2nd ruck. I cant see us winking the flag without making this move pretty soon.

Brisbane fans have to be the dumbest in the game? Bloke boos dusty when gets tackled, goes off his brain and calls him useless. I say hey mate, hes the best player the world has known and hes scrupulously fair. Hes won 3 norm smiths. Oh yeah? He goes. How many premierships has he won? Well, as many as fitzroy and brisbane combined i think? But thats not counting the Daley M's and Kangaroos jerseys.

the scoreboard person kept putting sydney swans players under richmonds stats???? Dane Rampe was our best all night.

Finally, ill reiterate, that was the worst, most lopsided umpiring ive ever seen and it totally *smile* my 'match day experience', as the AFL would put it.

#getfuckedhockingyourruiningit
Marlion wasnt as bad as you think EZ. Watch the replay. Had him as one of our better players

I turned it off because the free kick count was making me angry, bad for my mental health.
That being said it’s not the reason we lost. I don’t want to get too down on the kids in the midfield, which is where we lost it, because when you bring kids in it’s usually with mature seasoned midfielders around them.
Someone like RCD is playing his 4th game and is being asked to be a key midfielder and whilst his performances are admirable it’s not fair on him to be honest. Sit him in a midfield with Cotchin, Edwards, Prestia and Bolton around him and it would be totally different

i also turned it off halfway through the 2nd when Lions were only up by 12 i think it was.
Umpiring was making me too angry.

Listened on radio until the last quarter when it was all over, then watched the last 10 minutes to see Brisbane very very cocky and not respecting its oposition.

Aside from umpiring which is atrocious, it’s same old same old - beaten in clearance, beaten in contested ball, flood of ball inside our defensive 50. Playing a second ruck would help but we have to address contested ball issue. Game has changed & can no longer rely on turnover game.
Pretty sure we flogged everyone at clearances / contested ball during the finals last year. Tad difficult dominating this area when playing our reserve midfield week after week.
Not much good having a flash paint job n insane set of wheels if you've got no engine in the car or at best a one litre three cylinder job.

We are a middle of the table team at the moment. Need our stars back. But they are getting older.
True in all aspects, so it's an absolute bonus for us that we are getting some genuine, albeit unexpected game time into a bunch of kids who will be claiming those older players vacancies.
Games into Nigel, R2D2, Ross, Raaaalph, Naish, Not Dusty are priceless at the moment. Pity we haven't been able to sneak a couple of games into Cujo, Stacka, Dow as well.

yep and this is why the addition / discovery of RCD and Baker in the midfield is gold for us. by September, injury gods willing, we will bat deep in the clearance stakes

tier 1
martin
cotchin
prestia
edwards
bolton

tier 2
graham
RCD
Baker
lambert

absolutely no passengers in here. marlion and kmac can do their thing on the wings and dare I say it, Soldo might be able to pull a clark keating on all of us.

bright times ahead for 2021.

Pickett tries some stupid handballs at times
I can't even figure who he is trying to HB to half the time. The other half he misses the target player by a metre or more; makes it hard to anticipate and often receiver cannot collect it or has to stop and gather it, gets tackled or dirty ball forward with scrappy disposal.

But he's not alone. I posted ages back that our kicking and HB is often really scrappy. Even Short and Houli often just bang it forward not to our advantage, including from kick-ins. You frequently cannot see who on earth is the intended marking target ... or one of our midgets against an opposition tall. A heap of crap kicking last night and some really dumb football. e.g. WTF were Ross and Graham doing on the near wing? At one point, Broad after taking his allotted time, decided to chip pass it about 15-20m to a nest of three of ours and not one of them could mark it. Resulted in a T/O I think.
Some totally useless stuff ... probably because there are only 2 forward targets who are being blanketed by a bevy of oppo backs. Inept FL strategy is/has been our weakness for a long time. Other sides have re-invented their FL's to be diverse and multi-pronged e.g. Lions, Godeez, Moggs, even Bummers.

We, by contrast, did nothing in draft or trades except let Markov walk, got rid of Higgins and brought another midget defender in.

Certainly the worst and most biased commentary team I have heard for some time
Yes. Think about it. CH.7 went with bitter RFC hater, BT, supported by Luke Hodge and Leigh Matthews. What do you think the agenda was?

Furthermore, this follows on from Robinson or was it Parrot rehashing the 'if it bleeds, you can kill it" crap from historic LM and Motagna did a hatchet job on us pre-game singling out our guys as if they are the only KPFs and talls to ever put a block on.

Embarrassingly Did something I’ve never done before last night , was nothing to do with the Tiges performance , however early in the second quarter I turned the footy off , just couldn’t be bothered watching the rub of the green frees go against us again, yep spooky la la from me and definitely would not leave a game for it, just couldn’t be *smile* watching that *smile* again, again I have no issue with the actual umps, no doubt some are better then others but it’s just the grey soft rules . My son came out to the lounge and said what’s the footy score , I said I don’t know haven’t got it on , he said no wonder it’s quiet lol , smart arse.I must say in the firs5 qtr I didn’t have the volume on as I never do with BT commentating, I find that helps the blood pressure . I’ve sat through 100s of games while we are getting pumped and maybe it’s just that ive been blessed by this amazing team to fulfi my life dreams that it dosent now mean as much, however even though we were winning I simply just couldn’t be bothered watching another injustice to a great team.

In saying that I hope there wasn’t any other weak as *smile* Tigers out there :))

To lose by 5goals is still an ordinary performance in my eyes , they had plenty out too, *smile* happens

Go Tiges

yeah it was a strange experience.

I felt the same. would have gone to bed if I wasn't there.

like snake said, we've been to 100pt drubbings and dealt with Essendon underclass at windy hill, Teethless in standing room at Vic park while Daicos kicked 7

but this was one of the least enjoyable nights at the footy in my 50 or so years of attending.

and me and snake sat at opposite goals, and formed the opinion completely independantly.

I reckon if I copped 2 or 3 more nights like that, id retire from H&A

it wa she perfect shitstorm; crap game (Brisbane adopted the Buckley flood); HORROR adjudication, Marlion was terrible, 10% of Brisbane supporters understand the game, Rhys Matheson trying to get himself remembered one day by a person or two by getting in Dustys face

@taztiger4 and @Tony Braxton-Hicks should send the Virgin computer bloke a slab of VB
