Game Plan

The current game plan (if this is what it's called) is obviously not understood by any of our players.

The strenghts we have is our run and a variety of goal kickers namely, Nathan Mitch Jack and Richo.

Yet we continuely run the ball out of defence slowly and we tend to kick to the same spot all the time. Another fault is that we still use the option of going to Richo even though other players are in a better position.

This side has looked good when they run with intensity and they have at least 5 players in their attacking half. The forwards when they play with each offering an option has helpled us score more freely than just the big bomb from just beyond the centre and hoping that someone will mark it in the goalsquare.

We need a player like Nahas to be our crumbing forward. We need to release King from the backline and give his role to Tambling. If King is able to play the pressuring forward role then lets try this if not he might as well pack his bags now. Tambling should be used to run the ball out of defence although I do have concerns about his decision making. Delido needs to played between the 50m arch and should be the player we try to free up to deliver the ball to our forwards. A greater emphasis should be placed on making the forwards accountable. We all blame our backmen but look at how easy the ball is moved by the other team from our forward section. They are given time and space which usually means that they can spot iup playres upfield and then thrust towards their goal.

We need to make the game plan a lot more simple so as the players can understand what they have to do. I feel our current plan is far to complicated aand is not suitable to the skills of our players.

Our game plan is based on a theory of going as wide & indirect as possible. In simple terms its crap.

Tigerproud,

The "game plan" is simply too confusing and doesn't suit the players we have.

How can you try and play like a Geelong or a Hawthorn, which relies on efficient disposals and keeping possession when you have a squad of players devoid of kicking skills, hitting targets, and also making poor decisions.

It also relies on a hard-running midfield which again we do not have.
It also relies on people running hard into space to provide options for the ball-carrier, which we do not have.

It is no coincidence that our 2 'good years' since 1982 (1995 and 2001) used a gameplan centred around getting the ball quickly down to 2 tall forwards (Richo/Gale and or Edwards/Jurica)......or (Richo/Ottens and or Gale).
we also had crumbing forwards like Daffy and Naish.

The way Wallace has set our list up...we have Richo playing up the ground and our tallest forward is Riewoldt.
So our gameplan is based around efficient disposal and hence why we are in the predicament we are in.

K.I.S.S strategy people (Keep It Simple, Stupid)

I like Kings endeavour but you need to be able to kick playing forward, so I think its back to being a turdburgler.. Tambling off the half back/bp has to happen (make him accountable). I'd also like to see one last chance given to JON in the forward line. He did ok for Coburg in this role last year and his hopeless in the backline because of his poor awareness.

If someone can explain our game in bullet form matching roles to players...........please feel free.
Because I go to the matches I see the opposition structures roles and game plan but cant decifer the RFC strategy.
Please someone have a crack at it because I see it as: the enegizer man running the benny hill chase, with big bird on speed!!!

Yes well, as Jake King said minutes before the first round...."I'll probably get in trouble for saying this...but we haven't had a game plan the last couple of years we full understood. This year you can really see the plan working and feel part of something special..."

As I said to the boys later that night, I think the part of the plan he finally understood was the "You are not playing in this first game" because the plan is abysmal.

Thanks for the inside info.

And he too is part of the problem....too loose and too lazy!

Interesting that Walls said on TV today it took 17 years and 9 coaches to finally work out how to best use Richo....seems the plan for the last 17 years is still the same...kick it too Richo....at least he gives a rats about the jumper...unlike his 21 mates!

I'm sitting their today thinking that Wallace must come up with an alternative game plan that doesnt have half the team in the back half so that when we do get possession and move forward there is someone to kick to!

Well if we dont have a plan.... you'd think you would just kick it LONG!

Our gameplan seems to be based upon running the ball through half back.... then i get confused....

Coz either we dont have a good target to hit or our players arent good enough to hit the target. I think its a combination of the two!

For the style of play we have at the moment you cannot afford to have poor users of the footy such as jake king in the back half or poor decision makers like raines!

We need the likes of lids, brown, richo (normally a good decision maker, execuation sometimes is questionable but god we love him), newmo with the ball.

Matt white doesnt use the ball well enough, but does run to good positions.

Exactly, I said a couple of days ago that the Essendon game plan is similar to ours but Knights has the players playing to it much better than we do after less than 2 years in the job whereas Wallace is in is 5th year. Its an indictment on his coaching that he can't get the players to do what he wants.

I seriously wish we had a game plan. There are ways that we play in all games/parts or games that work and don't work. Game plans aren't rocket science and the club needs to have a hard think about what the strengths are of the this footy club and use them to the best ability. I don't think us trying to play like Geelong or Hawthorn has worked for us and I think Terry should have noticed that from NAB cup/challenge matches and not implemented that 'game plan'. We have some potent forwards that we need to utilise; Morton, Brown, Richo, Jacko, and put Nahas down there. With the key forwards, kick it long to them and run it through the middle corridor. But we need to fix the turnovers down back and need to limit the handball backwards and use the first option, because generally the first option is the best option.
