Game thread v. Western Bulldogs

I had to watch the game at a family function with the sound down, so would someone tell me about the Floss and *smile* injuries and what Jake did to rile up the Dogs. Early on Goodes seemed especially riled and my thought was that maybe Jake said some bad things.

Looks like Astbury has done his hamstring (was horrible probably would have been dropped anyway on that form) and Floss hurt his shin (didn't seem too bad). Brett Goodes dropped a sitter; look as though he *smile* himself and ducked his head. Kingy was just giving him *smile* about that in his inimitable style. Goodes deserved it as it was a very ordinary effort. Nothing more in it.

Rance was ordinary and Chappy struggled on the hack Jones who was on one leg most of the game.

Astbury got pantsed by C grader Markovic.

Footscray have justed announced that Jones will only play against Richmond and will be rested for all the other games. :hihi

To all those critical of the win, spare a thought for the last 30 years when we've had must-win games to make the finals. To win ugly is part and parcel of making it to September, one cannot expect champagne football week in, week out. If we manage to win the next 3, we'll be 11-4, just 2 elusive wins away from September action. I don't know about you, but I couldn't care less how we manage to get the points, I'm more concerned about avoiding the serial choking that has plagued this club for decades.

No doubt. We are now winning the games we should win whereas in previous years we would have been monties to drop many of them. Another 3 such games against Saints, North and GC coming up. Would be very nice to win those.

The next step is to lift the intensity levels and compete well with the top sides which we have struggled to do this year.

He looked horrible.

He is far far away from being a defender. When players like. Markovic take you to the ball, you one that his no good.
He was horrible tonight.
Regardless of his hammy, he needed to go out of the side...

Agreed. Whilst the boys were a bit sloppy and flat at certain stages, they nevertheless worked very hard for the 10 goal win. Personally I'm delighted.

Great isn't. We can play crap and still win by 10 goals.

The futures so bright, I gotta wear shades.

Yes, we can play poorly, yet still win by 10 goals without getting out of first gear. To me it shows a team that is learning to win as a team and not by individual efforts.

Happy with another win, ugly or tidy its 4 points and another step in the march to the finals. A lot good signs again and still room for growth. The team is going places and we still have Cotchin to play well....probably my only take is that either the expectation as Captain is holding him back this year and he will grow into the role or opposition sides are at last really putting a serious focus on stopping him. Great to see the next rung of players stepping up again and showing the way, Vlas, Reece, Ellis, Bacher starting to fill a huge void we had for years and letting us down. Dimma is really developing a solid team of honest performers who enjoy playing together and are developing a winning habit....a huge leap from the 90's to naughties era when we were a rabble!

I agree that it coul be the above combo DHN but two other things seem to be affecting him:
1. Possibly the knee tweak; and
2. Opposition focus on him is to have their tagger essentially sit on his back and hold both his arms. I have noticed over the last 6 rounds that his opponents are constantly scragging him. The guy is constantly tackled before he even gets to the ball and the umpires do nothing. I understand that with the umpires it is swings and roundabouts but fair dinkum they are ignoring that ball player, the creator is being seriously hampered. The club must ask for a please explain from the Geish and ensure this is highlighted.

Another quality team effort by the boys tonight.
Who'd genuinely have thought a few months ago that we could win any game by ten goals if the likes of Delidio, Cotchin, S. Edwards were held to modest games by their standards?

Bit down on tackling numbers last night, but it was hardly needed. If we didn't have the ball the boys swarmed around the doggies with enough intensity and menace to cause the Doggies to cough the ball up.

Goodes crapping himself when Jakey snarled at him was hilarious, n pretty sure it was Brandon who pressured n tackled the Doggy with a free to force a turn over free kick. We harrased crap out of them all night n they turned the ball over as badly as we used to not that long ago ;D.

Too right TT. Cotch has his arms and hands constantly tugged at and held well before he gets to the contest and ignored by the dumps. He does protest a little to them and that too is ignored. Pathetic. Imagine if it was Judd or Ablet - they get noticed then.

10 goal wins are great, only real concerns for me are the injuries and not enough tackling.
