gaspar a scapegoat

I think we all knew that last year should've been his last but the way its been handled is a bit shabby, i agree with the youth policy but hey thats sport/business for you, however i would of liked to see Gas have 1 more farewell match considering he has played over 200 games for the tiges.
I think most people would have liked to see Gas have a farewell match, AT. I would have liked to have seen AK get one, too. However Gaspar had the chance to do that and instead petulantly decided to take his bat and ball and go home. AK never had that choice.
AK was given the choice & knocked it back because he didn't think he would get through the game due to injury.

I stand corrected, thanks, mb.

wow - if things are divided at RFC they are starting to shatter on here

I agree. I don't understand the potshots at all, especially when someone has never offered to help out themself when there have been requests for help with the moderating in the past.

As you well know I've helped out in other ways.

Perhaps it was unnecessary. I apologise.

Moving right along..

All the neutrals I know cant beleive a 200 game veteran has been treated this shabbily and only re-inforced their previous negative view of Wallace and the Richmond 'culture'. That culture arises from appeassing the more hysterical Richmond supporter with ritual sacrifices, examples of which are all too familiar to posters on these boards. Maybe its not the board the coach or the players that are responsible for our culture or maybe it is their fault for taking any notice of armchair or internet warriors who dont know 'clay' from sand.

What a load of crap. RFC has performed so poorly in the past quarter of century due to its continual failure to perform what you call these "ritual sacrifices" until it's all too late. Gaspar was finished at least three years ago. His form would not have got him anywhere near 200 games at a half reasonable club. 200 games at RFC is nowhere near the same achievement at most other clubs.

RFC's continued acceptance of mediocrity from its playing list is the root cause of our poor culture. The old blame the supporters argument. Absolute and total *smile*. Saying sayonara to Gaspar may finally be an symbol of the end of mediocrity at RFC.

I don't think Darren had a lot left to offer, but it is dissapointing that he bowed out 'immediately'. I have a feeling that he was pressured into immediate retirement because TW said himself that he would have preferred Darren to stay as a back-up key defender in case of injuries. Instead Darren quit. Seems selfish on Gas' behalf. Does he think he's too good to pay seconds?

Anyway, he served the club very well in '00 and '01 and was ok last season. Very frustrating to watch this season. I wish him all the best in the future and am glad he wants to stick around to help develop the youngsters. Shame that he didn't stay put until season's end as proposed by Terry, unless TW was lying to us about that (which is highly likely).

Some lovely sentiments expressed on here regarding Darren Gaspar and rightly so. The unfortunate but true issue is that these kind sentiments are less and less of a reality in the hardnosed world of Afl. IMO, (regardless of what went on behind closed doors). Mr Wallace is on a hiding to nothing with some of his posturings. I don't feel very much sentiment this evening after watching Mr Franklin cut the Bombers to pieces. How is this related you might ask? As someone said in an earlier post (sorry can't find it to quote you) Terry has been hit with a massive reality dose this last couple of weeks regarding the skills of some of our players and he is really behind the 8 ball in doing something about it. Never too late I say. That's why another good/honest battler will be next in the form of Mr Shane Tuck. (Unless he can start hitting some targets). That too will be a sad day.

Its a sad day that the only guy apart from foley lately gets the boots kicked into when he goes in and gets the ball and the majority of the time has to kick the ball under pressure into what has been until lately a disgraceful forward setup. I certainly enjoy the bandwagoners on this site that jump on when a player has been dumped on with this particular comment.... Yes i am his president but i'll certainly back this guy into do what most others dont do currently in the jumper - that is go in and get the hard ball. If you dont have the support of other so called "outsiders" than you dont have much of a option of bombing the ball forward.

I'm with ya Tuby. I'd like to see him in the middle a bit more doing what he does best - getting the ball.

But back to Darren...

Tuck and Johnson are the main reason we are 0 and 5. Our forwards have been faily efficient despite getting about 10 -15 less inside 50s per game. Similalry our backs have been OK considereing the amount of ball coming in. Every other side has at least one or two efficient and smart midfielders who can clear to advantage. If you want to stay mired in mediocrity then by all means keep playing Tuck who plays 1970s football, and not too well at that!

The sooner people realise tw is like mr johhny howard (A SALESMAN AND POLITICIAN) the better!!! Trying to keep safe because the fans are getting restless.

What on earth makes sense in his comments today about gaspar that if he had not retired and gone back to coburg and played and even though he may warrant re selection on form they wouldnt pick him because of the youth policy.
So lets get this right tw, if the full back is a youngster playing in place of gaspar gets 8 , 7 , 6 goals kicked on him in three matches and if say for example gaspar was with coburg and had 1, 2 , 0 golas kicked on him then you would keep the youngster in at full back? Your soft tw 5 games in and your already wanting to tank the season to save yourself !!!!! and all the fans once again get sucked in !! Now the cry is "tw is making changes"

Im not a fan if tw never have been , never will be. tw you speak dribble.
Not a clue.

Not a clue hey? did you watch the geelong match sunday?I dont hear all the wallace lovers now saying how good the man is, its just another mistake made by the rfc signing wallace from the start !! wallace has lost the players full stop sick of his bs excuses 2 years and 6 rounds in and we get belted by 157 points its a disgrace.

Theres a reason as to why Walla$e has continued with his part time media commitments just incase coaching doesnt work out.
